2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 2001 LH Mirror Heater Not Working

I need to fix the mirror heater on the drivers side mirror on my 2001.



The glass is fine, the heater just doesn't work. The switch and passenger side is working.



I have no idea how this comes apart, and would like to avoid breaking the glass



I assume either the heating element is bad or something happened to the wiring in the drivers door side of the mirror heater circuit.



Any pointers would be helpful.

SHG, You can test the power to the mirror heat at the plug going into the mirror just inside the door panel. The plug is right there behind the mirror adjustment knob. Usually you can loosen the screw right there and pop a couple of the plastic panel fasteners out to get at the wiring connector. After that I'm not sure how to get the mirror apart to test the element or harness to it, maybe someone else here can chime in on that. If you need a left power heated mirror I have one off my truck. I converted to the kool-vue towing mirrors awhile back and I have my old power-heated mirrors in the attack. PM me if you need one.

they snap on... its a one time deal, they dont pop off in one piece, you have to gently brake the glass with a small hammer then pop it gently off the adjusting motors... ... plug the new one on and push on till it clicks and your done, takes about 5 mins.

Not in my case - after a school bus whacked my L/H mirror it popped out but fortunately for me it didn't break the mirror housing or glass and it did pop right back in. While the mirror was dangling by the wires :{, I noticed a hole in the bottom of the housing that possibly you could get a thin screwdriver into to help pry "slightly" on the tabs that hold the back of the glass mount into the motor operator.



Why go thru all that if you don't need to though. If you ohm the wiring to that particular mirror heater circuit you should get resistance if the element isn't burned out. If it is then you could take up M Vierea on his offer.

I've taken off the mirrors without breaking them. There's a 4" ring of plastic fingers holding the mirror to the motor unit. You can't replace the heater; it's bonded to the glass.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't had a chance to check anyting out, been busy with Easter, hopefully this week I will get a chance to look into the problem.

UPDATE:



I was at the dealer today to get the AC serviced, another story that is on going, anyway I asked if they had a replacement glass for the mirror, they did for $33. 50 installed, they gave me back the old mirror unbroken. I will check the old mirror with a meter to make sure that is what the problem was.



Thanks for the offers, BUT at $33. 50 installed I couldn't hardly pay the shipping for the complete assemblies which I don't really need.

Here's what I did - go to the kitchen… get two plastic/teflon spatulas - slide them behind the mirror backing at 12:00 and 6:00 and gently pry outward. The spatulas seem wide enough to spread the force and not split the glass. I suspect if your glass were to split easily it was going to go anyway due to lost temper.
