Does any one know for a fact who manufactured the OEM batteries in Rams of this era? Mine have lasted 8 years now but I fear the end is near as they wouldn't start the truck today and my clock has been randomly changing the time setting once a week or so. These have been great batteries and I would like to replace them with the same brand (they have NO identification on them). You can't beat 8 years of battery service!!! Has anyone had this kind of longevity with any specific brand of battery?

Doug

not sure who makes em but mine only lasted a little over 2 years before they gave me problems (not sure if I had duds or you have gotten lucky, LOL). replaced them with optima's and never looked back.

I would think that the OEM ones are from a large manufacuter like diehard or interstate etc.

There are only a few battery manufacturers supplying the US market. Diehard(Sears) and Interstate aren't manufacturers, but buy their private label brands from OEM manufacturers like Johnson Controls. If I had to guess, Johnson Controls, which is one of the leading OEM suppliers, probably supplies Dodge OEM batteries.

I just replaced mine and tried to find out the same thing. The original batteries were Delco freedom batteries which I was told were made by some other company, I don't remember which one. The new Mopar batteries are made by Johnson Controls, the same company that makes Costco batteries. The new Mopar batteries don't have the eye to see the charge condition like the OEM ones did. They are still sealed though and look almost identical to the old ones. If I were not concerned about the cost I would have gone with the Sears Platinum which is an Odyssey AGM. Good batteries at a good price.

I paid $97 each for the Mopar and hope they give me the same 8 plus years the stock ones did.

The original batteries on my 95 only lasted 3 years. So far my 05 batteries are still going strong.

I've had great success with Costco batteries in the past and you can't beat their warranty.

just replaced mine last week after 9 yrs of service. This winter was the final draw. Replaced with red tops.

There are a lot of posts about the OEM batteries going 7-8 years. Mine did and I ordered OEM again but they were a different manufacturer

Originals in my 02 yet with 105k on them but I think I have one going week this winter also so I think I will replace them this summer. Most likely will go to Interstate.

More info on OEM battery replacement. I checked my local Costco store today and found that they do not stock a replacement house brand (Kirkland) battery for the Gen II Ram diesel. If anyone has contrary information, I would be interested in knowing which Kirkland battery you used (they go by a one ot two digit numbering code system). None of the batteries they had on the shelf were even close to the right size for the Ram. Then it was over to Walmart where I found that their house brand, EverStart, lists a replacement as # MAXX-27N. This is an exact size replacement with a 3 year free replacement and 9 year prorated warranty. Sound good! The price is $76. 94 apeice, which compares to the local auto electric shop price of $135 each for the appropriate Interstate battery. No contest there! Unless someone has something very negative to say about Walmart batteries, it looks like this is the way I'll go.

The OEM batteries that came in the 2nd gen trucks are a group 27. I believe that the 3rd gen trucks are group 65. There are other group sizes that will fit as long as the specs and measurements are close to the OEM group size. I'm running a group 34 Diehard Platinum in mine. My original batteries, which I believe were made by Delco, lasted seven years so my plan was to purchase another OEM set. When I called the dealer they told me that the new OEM batteries are made by interstate, so I decided to go with the Platinums.

One of the main reasons I went with the Mopar batteries again is because they are sealed and I never had so much as a leak in the 8 years of stock use. That is also an advantage of the AGM batteries but they are twice the price.
