2001 or not?

Have a question. I have a 2001 CTD born on or about 3/01 in Mexico with all the goodies including rear disc brakes, but without the black plastic trim across the tailgate. A friend of mine just picked up a 2001 made in Mexico on or about 7/00, his has the black plastic trim across the tailgate and rear drum brakes. Now the question, I thought all 2001's had rear disc brakes and the plastic tailgate trim had been deleted. Is this a 2000. 5 or a 2001?

DC got stuck in the CAFE mess. They started calling the trucks 2001's in early 2000 before they really wanted to due to average mileage restrictions. The trucks built after July 2000 got the rear disc brakes as well as a few other changes although they are all really 2001 models. It is rather dumb. Many guys are calling ther trucks 2001. 5's to distinguish the rear disc brake even though there is really no such thing as a 2001. 5 model. Hope that confuses things more.

I ordered mine on Feb. 17, 2000. By then it had to be a 2001 model! I also have rear drums, tailgate trim, etc... I don't know of any differences between my truck and a 2000 - except for the year designation. That's why I refer to the 2001. 5s as the REAL 2001s.

I stopped trying to second guess DC about 3 months after I ordered. Well worth the wait imo

Mine's an oddball; no trim, rear drums. Built 03/01.

That IS odd, Jar Head. I haven't heard of any with rear drums after June of 2000.
