2001 Ram slow start, need advice please

I have a 2001 Ram with the 5.9 Cummins. Recently it turns over several times before the engine catches. I know the pump runs for a few seconds as the wait engine light is on. I can't hear the pump running anymore. Is this electrical somehow, or is the pump trying to go out. Is there a fix without replacing the whole pump? Thanks for any and all knowledge.

Pump could be not working at all. You need to check the fuel pressure at or after the filter. The injection pump will run the engine with no fuelpressure but it can/will damage the engine if run for long. And yes you can use a different pump. Do a search on pump replacement. bg
