Okay I have a buddy that has a 2001 Dodge with the Cummins and a manual transmission. He says at times it will not rev past 1700 RPM. If he lets off the throttle and ease back into it some times it will rev up normally. Is he dealing with a bad throttle position sensor? Kind of dangerous to drive like it is. Thanks for any help you can give.

Check for codes. Any check engine lights? The last time that happened, it was the IP tango uniform, but, you need to do some troubleshooting and code checking.

Go to the Blue Chip Diesel website and go through their trouble shooting steps. You can bypass the TPS and see if the VP44 can still go to high idle.

Also need to know if the truck is puffing smoke, and what color, how thick...

Fuel pressure?

Any hesitation when it does rev up - smooth all the way to 1700 or what ever it goes to, or does it surge?

Tell your buddy to get signed up to the TDR so we don't have to relay questions.

Thanks Guys. I'll pass this info on to him. He's a young kid with a young son so he's tight on money and is trying to do what he can himself but I have urged him to sign up to TDR and reap the rewards.

Also, if he has an Edge or similar programmer, it needs to be unplugged and tested without it. I don't know how many I've fixed by unplugging the stupid box..... I've got a Quadzilla and three Edge EZs on the shelf right now that need to be sent back and repaired.....
