Help - Dealer giving me runaround on seal

I have a 2001. 5 I need to find out which wire runs from the start position on the key switch.

I plan to add a relay to the switch on the clutch so that when I turn the key to start, the relay will engage (aka clutchless start #ad
).

TIA

What silencer ring? ;)

Sounds like the difficult way to go.

Since you seem to know about the clutch pedal position switch I think you can accomplish what you want by connecting the two wires that go to that switch. You could connect the wires permanently or with a manual switch.

I believe you'll find that 12 volts is only present at the clutch pedal position switch when the key is in the crank position.

You don't have to go to that much trouble -- there is a switch on the rod that goes through the fire wall from the clutch arm to the slave cylinder. Jump the two wires on the switch, and you bypass the safety switch.
Just be **** sure trans is in neutral before starting. The Cummins torque will move the truck with suprising speed.

I had a 89 2. 5 Turbo I Dodge Spirit ES, and the switch did not work. Even that little battery and starter I could start the car in gear. Only 2 times in 130,000 and both times no one got hurt or cars crunched!

The reason that I want to do it this way is because the cruise control won't work by permanently wiring it. It thinks the clutch is released.

Gizmo,
I just put a jumper across the switch on my truck with a 100 Ohm 1/8 watt resistor in series. The resistor was just from habit. #ad

I do not miss the clutch switch for either starting or cruise dis-engaging. I have never depressed the clutch pedal to dis-engage the cruise when the brake or the steering wheel control will accomplish the same task MUCH faster/easier.
The cruise control works just fine with the switch jumpered.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is a plug in an automatic equipped truck that fools the wiring and makes it think the clutch is pushed in. Check a bone yard for the plug. Probably could get it for a buck.

Thanks for the help guys #ad
. I ran a jumper across the two yellow/red wires and it works great now. Mick2500 thanks for the jumper tip, cruise still works great.

Sorry it took so long to get back.

Gentleman if your clutch (safety) switch/ neutral safety switch is wired like a 96 which I'm sure they are. There is no power going to them. They activate a ground for the ignition terminals on the starter relay. That is when clutch is pushed to floor or auto is in Park/neutral.
So it is real easy to connect the two wires together going to the swithes.
Gizmo 007 I don't have cruise. How many wires are coming and going to clutch switch? If there are three wires one goes to starter relay the other one goes to cruise and one is ground wire unless they meet some where else(ignition/starter relay and cruise cut off).
You can also isolate the wire coming from the switch into engine compartment and ground it permanately there. With out messing with wires going/coming from connector at switch.

Check your wiring diagrams!

The model year 2000 clutch pedal position switch is in series BETWEEN the ignition switch and the engine starter motor relay. Any grounding at the clutch pedal position switch (bypass jumper on A/T) will probably result in smoke as the circuit appears unfused.

On model year 2000 clutch pedal position has NOTHING to do with the vehicle speed (cruise) control.

Thomas is right! Depressing the clutch while having the cruise engaged will NOT release the cruise control. What it will do is instantly raise the R. P. M. until you hit the rev limiter and scare the livin begeezus out of you! Don't ask me how I know! I went to downshift and forgot I was on cruise control. Hope I didn't hurt anything!

TomB,

Electronic control of the cruise control system is integrated into the PCM. If the cruise control system is engaged and the clutch pedal pushed to the floor, the rapid rise of the engine RPM should be detected by the PCM which in turn should disengage the cruise control.

Hey, thanks again for all your help! My 2001 only has 2 wires (both are yellow/red). I jumped across them and Now i'm set to go. Couln't have done it without you.
