Here ya go:

P0215 - Fuel Injection Pump Control Circuit
P0216 - Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure
P1689 - No Communication Between ECM & Injection Pump Module
P1693 - DTC Detected in PCM

Well thanks guys I'll let him know I won't ask about the best pump because that gets beat to death like a pickle at a nun camp

Before buying pump go to the bluechip site and follow the http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/vp44_diagnostics.html. This is a great site. The 216 code is not always a death code. I was getting a 216 code turned out to be a loose connection. Check the connector to the vp, all the grounds and the big connectors on the fire wall. The one with the white bale is the one that caused my problems.

I agree, was always under the impression that it was until a few weeks ago I got it when my airdog lift pump died . Put on a new FASS and trucks been running better than ever, have 600 miles so far after getting the "death code"

My understanding is that the 216 is an electrical issue. It seems to mean that vp can't keep up with the demand so it gets out of time.
so from what I read I checked grounds and connectors. That fixed mine, good to hear someone had similar results I have about a 1000 miles since trouble and still running good. Even pulled TT about 100 miles..

I agree. You just said it better. On mine it turned out to be a connection on the fire wall. The one with the white "bale".
