Need help from members. I'm looking at a 2001 dodge 24 valve quad cab dually with 47000 miles, were there any problems with this year truck, if so what and did these have the 53 block. What kind of fuel mileage to expect. I need input pretty quick as 2 other people are looking also. Thanks.

I think the 53 block was gone by 2001 but it's easy to check. The KDP was still around and the transfer pumps didn't last.

Not all 53's were bad. I can't recall the digits for the bad foundry currently.

Wife's 01 6spd 4. 10s gets 16-18 mpg religiously.

Cycle the key 3 times to check for codes.

Fuel milage depends on where you are driving, and any aftermarket parts. Fuel lift pump tends to go often so a fuel pressure gauge is needed so you know when. The milage that I got and get now are as follows:

20-25 with tonnnue cover, intake, and 4" exhaust, and 33" tires.

9-12 city driving and stop and go from work to home, 4 miles each way(no faster than 35 mph)

Auto or standard? My '01 with a little over 200,000 miles has had two lift pumps, two clutch hydraulics, two sets of batteries, one set of front brakes and one set of shocks.

Summer fuel runs 20 mpg and winter fuel runs 18. Engine block is #55.

I change engine oil at 7500 miles, fuel filter at 15,000. Transmission, transfercase and rear axle at 36,000 miles with front axle changed at 100,000 miles.

It has been a good truck.

BUY IT or you will regret loosing the deal to someone else who is lookin for the same thing you are, a bulletproof powerplant at a bargain price that, if propely maintained and equipped, will outpull, outrun, and outlast trucks that cost 5 times as much, and quit hand wringing over the 53 block. I've owned 2, over 300,000 mi. between the 2, NO CRACKS, just ULCERS, worrying. if you get one (95% were in 99's) just leave the fueling stock and warm it up well before gouging on the loud pedal, it will last longer than most marriages.

Mine is an 01 nd still going strong. I get about 21 mpg, now that it has gotten colder it dropped to 20 mpg.

How are you getting 21? 20. 5 is the absolute best I have ever gotten and that was one 300 mile trip soon after the rebuild. I have an app on my phone that has kept track of all fillups since september and I'm right at 15. 4. I drive about 250 miles/week average including 46 mile round trip to and from work.

All my previous calculations were by hand also. (My overhead is very consistantly 4. 5 mpg OVER the actual)

Duster-- you'll notice that a lot of these guys have changed there transfer pumps to after market, of which should be considered with the 24 valve engine.

Definitely. You might also want to check lift pump pressure before making an offer. If the pressure is low, or often times it's even at 0 psi, you should calculate a new VP44 into the cost. I would for sure be adding an aftermarket lift pump as part of your initial cost as well.

My 2001 138,000 miles I did add a ddrp from genos and 4" exhaust, with a overhead camper 9' I still get 17-19 mpg. Good truck. Like was said before buy it and enjoy!

I'm going with Cowboy's sentiments. Mine's bulletproof and there isn't enough money in the world to get someone to buy it from me. I've had it since new and am still in love with it. Change out the lift pump for an aftermarket one-it's a must. The A/C evaporator core under the dash is a piece of crap-I'm on my 3rd one. This seems to be true of other Mopar vehicles as we had the same problem with my wife's 99 Durango. Other than that, I've had no recurring problems. Just normal wear and tear-brakes, shocks, batteries, tires, etc.

Don't know where you're located, but road salt is starting to get to it. Replaced front driveshaft a few months ago due to rot. Was so thin screwdriver went through it. Also, it's so reliable and works so hard for us, that I'm begining a frame restoration process rather than get a different truck. Money well spent.

I routinely get 17-18mpg around town if not romping on it. Best highway 20mpg no cargo, no towing, speed limit. Heavy towing 10-11 if careful. Worst heavy towing 7. 75, but I was racing another Dodge also pulling a trailer. :-laf

Hey Wyomingcowboy, My absolute best has been just a little over 23 mpg. The majority of my good fuel mileage has been in hot weather. Winter time my mileage always decreases.
