I have been reading that the 2004 pollution regs have been accelerated to 2002.

Previously it had been speculated that the 2004 diesel engines might need Exhaust Gas Recycle (EGR). Has anybody heard if EGR will be required on the 2002? Do the regulations go into effect on Jan 1, 2002? Will we have a 2002. 5 model like the 1998. 5?

Origionally I was planning on buying a 2003 with 2004 pollution tightening. Now I may keep the 97 or look for a 98 3500 4x4 quad cab 3500.

It probably depends on whether the truck is sold in California as to if it has an EGR valve.

Bumble/anyone,

This is a dumd question, but does my 2001 ETH bought in Kalifornia have an EGR, and if so, what does it look like and where is it located?? Just curious. I am planning to get one of Geno's exhaust manifold blankets, but in his catalog it says it won't fit a CA EGR valve equipped truck. ???

Thanks,
Tom

As far as I know the only California trucks equipped with EGR valves are the late 96 and all of 97 12 valve engines. The early 94-96, the ISB engines, and the 98 12 valvers did not require the EGR.
The EGR stands for exaust gas recirculation valve and allows exhaust gas to be piped into the intake on decelleration and burned with the fresh intake air to reduce HC. If your engine is so equipped there will be a valve on the intake horn and a pipe running from that valve to the exhaust manifold.

Tom, your 2001 Kalifornication special does not have an EGR. None of the 24V diesels have required it so far. Even in CA
