Well my fuel guage kinda payed off, my girl friend drove the truck for the first time in monthes- hour drive each way, got home I hop in and notice 2 # of pressure with my foot in it. well i pull over turn the truck off and restart it goes to 15# and then drops to 0. check sender ect yep its the pump. Call the dealer and the head service writer tells me "yeah we do one of those a week". I talk him into letting me just take the pump and put it in myself. I guess the FASS system is next and I will have a new pump for sale.

For sale or PIF. I am in need of a NEW LP, as I will be doing the LP relocation, and I want to leave one in the OEM location as backup.

BTW, I am on my second LP in 2500 miles. The last one got baked by a weak VP44 (which is also being replaced) Have you been getting any soft codes (no MIL light)? 0216 code but no other symptoms.

lift pump

I am ordering my fass system on mon. I will probably keep the lift pump just in case. I took the cover off the old pump, its not the impellers ect that the problem I am sure it is in the motor its self. I suspect that vibration heat ect is burnimg up the windings ect. I also think that the design and overall quality of the Carter Lp is weak and they will fail no matter where they are mounted. Also educate me on the Codes that are mentioned in the previous post. Also what are the sysptoms of a vp44 going out???

P1693 is a compaonion code in the PCM that indicates that there is a code in the ECM

ECM codes that can arise if there are problems with the injection pump, P0216 being the most common.

P0216 Fuel Injection pump Timing Malfunciton

P0251 Fuel Injection Pump Mechanical Failure Fuel Valve Feedback Circuit

P0253 Fuel Injection Pump Fuel Valve Open Circuit

P0254 Fuel Injection Pump Fuel Valve Current Too High

P1688 Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure

P1689 No Communication Between ECM & Injection Pump Module

P1690 Fuel injection pump CKP Sensor Does Not Agree With ECM CKP Sensor

P1691 Fuel Injection Pump Controller Calibration Failure

Symptoms of a failing pump.

Low power, white smoke after engine is warm, surging, stalls, no start, miss fire/rough running.

FASS

Not puttin you off or anything, but if you do a search for 'FASS' you will find a quite a few threads that detail the FASS system. I have one and it is great. I dont have to worry about the LP problem anymore (heck the LP is not even in the truck anymore. ) You would not be dissappointed.

Craig.
