I dropped the tank on my 2002 ram diesel to change the fuel sending unit. I purchased a new Mopar 04897669AB sending unit from the local dealer. I worked for hours trying to release the 2 wires from the plug in the large sending unit / suction housing. I could not get the 2 wires unhooked to save my life so I cut the 2 wires. I soldered the new sending unit wires to the old plugs and a few inches of old wire. I plugged it into the plug under the truck and turned on the key. The fuel low icon on the dash never came on and I could not make the gage move by lifting the arm. Did the length of the wires change the current or is on of my plugs out of wack.

I just put an ohm meter on the spliced wire sending unit and it read 220 empty and 21 full. I guess that answers my question about the spliced wires. It must be the connection from the truck plug to the sending / suction module. I will keep looking.

Splicing the wires should have no effect on the reading provided you connected the same wire to the same wire.

220/20 are the correct readings so must be another problem. Have you tested the actual gauge cluster. There is cluster test that will swing all the gauges to verify they work. can't remember what it is though turn the key hold this button down stand on one foot and howl at the moon or something like that might be in the owners manual/ That would verify the gauge actually works and would narrow it down a bit more

I have the new sending unit and fuel tank back in the truck. Everything is working good now. I had a connection problem at the top of the fuel tank where the wires plug in. Thanks for all of your help.

Your welcome between that site and here I've saved a lot of money and time. Plus learned more then I thought possibile.
