According to Greasel.com who does WVO conversions also, the heated WVO smokes the electronics in the VP-44, and they advise against using it in a 2nd Gen Cummins. I guess you have to heat it up enough to flow through the fuel system. I might get a 12-valve just to use it (keep the 24 for going fast of course!!!)

Anyone notice the ridiculous claims the seller is making. 50% noise reduction :-laf Sounds like a blow hard to me. 60-70% wear reduction :-laf

Sounds to good to be true. Buyer beware
 
He doesn't have great ebay feedback either.

It might be a good truck, but his claims make me wonder what else he is lying about.
 
Bio-Diesel

Anybody else seen the episode on TRUCKS about the bio diesel manufacturing system called Fuel Meiser. You can take waste cooking oil treat it with lye and methanol, separate off the glycerin and use it for fuel. They made 20 gallons of bio diesel put it in a Cummins and drove it with no ill effects. Anyone have any experience with it? The system is 3K bucks but makes biodiesel at 70 cents a gallon. With my current fuel consumption I could pay for it in less than a year.
 
Missed that episode. There are much cheaper units around than that. $500-$1000 should get you up and running. Do a search. We have some members brewing and running thier own Bio-diesel. Have seen some recent threads also. Bio can be made from WVO and would be the only way I would run that stuff through my VP44. ;)
 
I saw the episode looked into that thing, then saw it at Indy, but my son in highschool was making it last year, I ran what he made.

Back to that episode of Trucks, Stacy drained the tank of that '01 and poured the bio in and hit the Comp box to light up the tires and away he went, he said with out incedent... ... . no heaters etc, just raw bio, so who knows what the cetane level is.

Now back to my son and his school, the local McDonalds was paying the highschool to rid them of waste oil, and yea smells like fries out the back of the pipe... ... ... ... . so I know the cost of the lye was balanced by what they got paid from McDonalds to cart of with the oil.

Weather or not I would run it in my truck on a regular basis, I doubt it, but I would Stacy to do a follow up on that Cummins they were running it in.
 
Trying to get an answer from Stacy on how that '01 likes the bio, or if it is even still running it... ... ... . btw the pic is off his web site showing the '01 burning more than the bio.

Making your own bio diesel

I have done some checking on the fuel miester. It sounds like a good deal to me. Diesel is high and if you can make it yourself why not? The trick is finding a supplier for the bulk lye and methanol. I have done that but I still can't find bulk used vege oil. All of our local McD's round up all their used oil and process it and reuse it. Nasty huh?! Another option I am looking into is buying the oil fresh from the local grain elevator we have in town that produces it. Not sure on the cost yet though. I have talked to the fuel meister guys a little and they claim with a mixture of 50% diesel and vege oil in the winter with just a little conditioner you are good to -10F. And the oil should store for years with a little anti-bacterial additive. If I can get all of my supplies ironed out I will start making and using it and let you guys know how it works. I also am going to use it in the combine and tractor this fall and try to help offset some fuel costs there too.

I think it is important that the oil be heated to frying temps rather than out of a grain elevator. Something about changing the structure of it by the heat.



I wonder about the VP44 and the lubricity of the bio. What amount of Stanadyne PF would offset the lack of lubricity? Then you get into a $$$ trade off situation.



Another thing that may have a bearign on it. The OEM lp barely is adequate for the VP. If you have a pusher pump or RASP or equivalent does that have a factor in it.



Several of us on another thread are working on keeping the VP cool with cooler fuel and have made some mods to the fuel delivery system to do so. Something about keeping the fuel cool to cool the VP may have a bearing.



Lesser than B100 mixes, ie B5 - B50 seem to be popular. Best of both worlds?



Some are buying Bio from manufacturers that are certifying a fuel standard for the Bio they sell.
