Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2002 Which Auto Which Trany/Transfer Case??

Friend got a late 2002. . dealer is telling him he has the same Auto trany (4sp DO) and diff case (4x4) in his 2002. . than was used in the 01. 5's... Someone shed some light on this debate. . is there a web site that has some info. . We don't have the truck in front of us to compare...

I don't know of any significant drive train changes between 01. 5 and 02's. All the changes happened in '03.

The 02 front axle is substantially different, other than that I think they are the same.

The transmission-47re and transfer case - 241DLD or 241 HD(power take off) are the same on the '01. 5 and '02's. The front axles on trucks built after December '01 have no central axle disconnect, but are still Dana 60's. For '03, all new transmission (48RE Chrysler built), transfer case (New Venture 272) and axles (American Axle Co. )

LSMITH, exactly how is the front axle different on my '02? Is it better or worse? I mean, did the decontent to save money, or actually improve it?

No axle disconnect. It did save money, and should be a bit stronger but fuel economy will sufffer too.
