I heard the old 5 speeds had 5th/OD gear problem but is the 5 speed in my 03 the same or has the problem been addressed?

2nd: I have read post about 6 speed problems but none about 5 speeds and have yet to see any newer 5 speeds with any problems.

I dynoed at 390 h. p. 879 ft lbs torque and tow 10k 5er and trans never misses a beat. ( I am not light footed )

So my question is, is their any people here that have broken their 5 speeds? and if so, what broke ( besides the clutch )

Glad you asked! I too have an 03 with the 5 speed. Also had one in my 99 and neither one ever missed a beat. My dyno numbers are below yours (360 / 780) but I'n not really easy on the trans either. Between off road, towing, snow and the occasional red light drag race I'm pretty hard on it. It will be interesting to see if anyone has had any problems.

Copy that, I TOO am a lonely 5-spd, and at 437/911 - I am wondering where the breaking point is -- Do any 12v sledpullers use the 5-spd? or are they autos - Cause if there 5-spds, I dont think we have anything to worry about :D

I think the 5 speed in our newer trucks has been modified since the old 12v 5 speeds ( 5th gear etc. ) but I would like to get an answer from someone that knows for fact.

They still only have a half splined shaft but the nuts are now staked down. Don't get me wrong, it's not a solutiuon and I intend to put a fully splined shaft with a lockring in mine when I do the clutch but in the big picture, they're not much diffrent than the trans' of the previous years. They're simply not rated for the big numbers, that's why Dodge quit using them. That said, There are many sled pullers using them, including BigBadDodge and he's over 700hp. Joe D has one in Sickly too at 800hp... ... at least it used to be 800hp.
