2003 6 speed transmission

My gear shift is loose near the transmission. Apparently, it screws into the transmission top cover. Anyway my problem is I can feel a notch cut into the shift lever that a wrench fits on but, my problem is how do you get the rubber cover lose to raise it up so I can put a wrench on the shift lever and tighten the little bugger.

The rubber transmission boot just pops into the console. I can't remember if it was spring clips or not, but I just used a small flat blade screwdriver with light finger pressure on the boot edge to pry it loose.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I removed 3 screws that hold the center console down and lifted the console up which exposed the shifter. I was able to get a wrench on the shifter and tighten the little feller... .
