2003 and newer Infinity stereo

I have a 2002. I am looking for a Infinity AM/FM/CD/Cassette if available stereo that supports the MP3 format. I really would like to keep the factory look and sound. I have no interest in any aftermarket system.



What year did the Infinity systems start supporting MP3, and will any of these newer systems mount seamlessly into a 2002?

2005 Infinity Stereo

I have a 05 with an AM/FM/CD/CASS and the Infinity System. It does not support the MP3 format. I also have a 97 with AM/FM/CD Infity stero that blows the 05 system away. As far as I know, the 94 to 02 2500's used a single DIN sized head unit, while the 03+ uses a DIN and a half size unit. I have had the dash out of the 97 and I don't think it would be easy to put the newer system in. Another issue is how the systems interface with the computers in the trucks. I was told that the 06+ trrucks used a different communications buss that the 05, so I would not be able to use a newer system in my truck. The same is probably true for the pre 03 trucks.



Of course, I may have been given some bad info since it came from the dealer. I would look into what other systems were available from Chrysler in other models. You may find a system from a Jeep or other model that will fit into you Ram and work with the Infinity system.
