Went down the freeway yesterday, cruise control worked just fine. Did our shopping and returning home no cruise control. Would not come on at all. Did the instrument cluster test and all lights will light up including the word “CRUISE”. Checked for “P” codes and found one on the fan (P0483) nothing else. Disconnected the batteries for about 1 hour. Went for a test run, I could hold the “ON” button down for 15 seconds or so, release the button and the “CRUISE” would come on. Goes “off” just fine.

Over the next 30 minutes or so the time frame between pressing the button, releasing and “CRUISE” coming on reduced to the point of press button, release button ‘CRUISE’ comes on. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Next day (Today) Cruise control worked for two applications of cruise, Now will not work again…. period. . this sucks:{

Any ideas??

check the electric vacuum pump by the pass. side fire wall this needs to make 11" of vac. to keep the cruise control on.

BD, thanks for the tip, I'll check that next. So far (as of yesterday) the darn Cruise control was working again. I wondering if it was/is just a glich in the ECM? When it's on it will work for hours going down the freeway, seems to me if the vac was not working properly it would shut off at some point.

On 03 Auto's the ECM has NO control of the Cruise, it is entirely controlled by the PCM mounted on the rider side firewall Use terminal grease on all 3 connectors C1 C2 C3 to eliminate a bad connection, each one of these 3 connectors has 1 or 2 pins associated with cruise control.

I don't Know why the 03 Auto is the only Year Chrysler use two seperate Devices. 04 and up use the ECM to control Engine and vehicle operations?go figure.

TWest, It is rather confusing when you look in the book and it talks about the PCM for this function and the ECM for another, both dealing with the cruise control. Oh well:)

after seeing the list of dealers closing, I see our local (well 85 miles away) dealer is safe for now, IF all else fails.

I here Ya, Their are many things that may cause the cruise to malfunction, connections, switches, Vacuum pump,servo,clock spring, etc. it's all try and eliminate.

I've always figured it was simply a carryover from 2nd generation trucks which used this arrangement for the cruise control.

Maybe they didn't have enough time to do a proper redesign before the 2003 models were shipped?
