2003 Dodge CTD 2500 Ball Joints

I had my truck aligned recently and was told by the alignment shop all 4 of my ball joints are bad as well as the steering box. I took it down to the dealership to get it fixed under warranty and was told that the 2003 ball joints are ment to have a bunch of play. Everyone else I have spoken with said that is crazy. Is this really within factory specs like they say? I was told they have about 1/4 inch of movement.
