I have a new 2003, DC SLT 3500 with HO, 6-sp, etc. I am a little confused as to how often it should be serviced. After reading the Maintenance Logbook it appears to me that for Schedule B (I suppose you'd call it "severe duty") operation the service period is every 7,500 miles. By comparison, it appears that for 2003 California vehicles (235 hp) the service period is every 3,750 miles. Am I understanding correctly?

Also, my dealer suggested that for the very first service, I have it done at about 1,500 miles. Do you agree?

This is my first diesel and I want to start off on the right foot. So I appreciate your input.

You are correct in your interpretation of the service intervals. It doesn't hurt to change the oil and filter at 1,500. Lots of guys do that. I just stick to the recommendations in the manual.

I also have a H. O. in kali, however I use the 7500mi. schedule. I first changed my oil\filter at 1100 miles, than at 3750 like the book says and then just filter at 7500,(8100 really) and so on. I believe the shorter interval for the subS. O. truck is for the computer timing and miscellaneous smog crap. So every 3750 miles change the filter and every 7500 the oil and filter for our trucks.

This is my first diesel and after some reading I am a little confused. The maintenance log that came with my truck shows the service schedule as 3750 miles or 7500 miles. I was under the impression that the service schedule was 15000 miles or 7500 miles. This is not a California truck. What is the real story here?

Thanks,

Nate :)

The "realistic" service schedule (Schudule B) for non CA trucks is 7,500 miles. The owners manual is confusing until you figure out the symbols in the columns.

Ha! You're right. I missed all of those stupid crosses and diamonds. If I tear out every other page, the book will be right.

Thanks,

Nate :)
