Looking for some advise and guidance - Truck in signature, now has 125K on the ticker. About a week ago I had one very long crank (15-20 sec) then ran just fine on power pup 90 horse setting, since then several 5-10 sec cranks with an occasional 15-20 sec crank, sometimes multiple key cycles before fire. Code P0602 keeps coming back after clearing codes.

Local repair shop (not dealer) says step 1 would be to reflash ecm and see if condition continues and code comes back. Step 2 doesn't sound good - if reflash does not cure they say new ecm and I don't want to buy a new ecm if you know what I mean:{

Has Anyone expirienced this and could it have been coused by bddl?

I very rarely change programs with bddl, usually I leave in 90hp setting.

Again, once truck starts it runs normal - plenty of power with no stumble or stalling.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

the BDDL is causing the 602 code, but it is not causing to your hard start problem. all downloaders cause this code. All it means is that the ECM is seeing something has been changed(by the BDDL).

Thanks scrappy, I should've known that! I guess I'll forget the reflash and just try to diagnose the hard start

I have a similar problem with my truck. It seemed to happen within months of putting in a Power Puck (Pressure box). I spoke with Cummins Tech support and the tech was suggesting low rail pressure. From other threads I have read here, it could be the pressure releaf valve and/or the pressure sender in the high pressure common rail. The higher rail pressure could be affecting these parts adversely. These days parts used by the manufacturer are spec'ed just for the opperating conditions without any extra built in.

If anyone else has some experience with this and maybe a repair, chime in.

Well good news, although now feel a little stupid - Changed fuel filter (only 6000 miles on a 7 micron), starts fine again! I still cannot believe it ran so well, even pulling 14k but the filter was definately plugged up. Must have gotten bad fuel because there was some white gunk on filter (water?)

Anyway, thanks for all who gave advise!

Glad yours was fixed with the fuel filter. Mine took an new lift pump. Mine had been hard starting for a few months though. Also, it didn't through any codes and the SnapOn scanner couldn't find a problem. I think since the LP is mounted on the engine it was getting hot and not pushing the psi the CP3 needed. You might still want to get a fuel pressure guage. My high and low presure guages are going in next week.

Kevin just called me and it's not starting. He's on a campout in Petoskey a bit north of me. I'm wondering if taking him a new filter would do anything, or if it's something else. I'm sort of clueless with this electronic stuff.

Anybody have any other ideas?
