My dad has a 2003 3500. He says his radio lights have gone out so it is difficult to know what station your on. I know factory radios from the junkyard are expensive. Can his radio be fixed? I told him may be best to go aftermarket. He doesn't need or use bluetooth/USB, the factory radio is just fine for him. Thanks for any suggestions

Whatever money he would save by going aftermarket can very quickly be eaten up by having to buy an adapter harness & either wiring it up or paying someone like Car Toys to do it. Then he'll also need an antenna adapter and a dash adapter kit.

If all he wants is radio, it's much easier to go OEM. It's literally a 20 minute deal to replace it and the only tool he'll need is a #2 Phillips screwdriver. There is only 1 screw that holds the center dash in place and 4 for the radio.

Here's a refurb on eBay for $72.25 with free shipping: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-J...ash=item36267ff0f0:g:8BIAAOSwnlFaYhGL&vxp=mtr

Mine is blank when on accessory mode, but lights up when the key is in run position. It might be just a bad wire.

Illumination Wire: Orange/Dark Blue
Dimmer Wire: Orange/White

thanks for the replies. His radio wont light up at all. Pawpaw, thanks for the reference, I have contacted him. I need to pull my dads radio to see what plug it takes as there was two different styles. I have purchased a few head units from crutchfield mainly just to plug my phone into, their affordable and come complete with the harnesses that even I can figure it out, but my dad doesn't require anything beyond factory. Thanks
