I'm seriously looking at a 2003 2500 LB QC 6spd 4x4. Its a super nice truck thats been well taken care of. Its stock and was not worked except to pull a camper on occassion... which is normal use to me.

On a 2003... I'm familiar with the lift pump setup. But from what I understand here it seems that if it fails... I have to go to an in-tank setup... which I am against.

Are the 03 style pumps no longer available? Or worse yet... are they worthless? The only mods I'd consider would be perhaps and EZ and definately a straight pipe. And probably not the EZ.

I've been throught the 24V 2G lift pump problems too much. I'd hate to have to deal with another problem such as that. And I'm not a fan of the FASS either. We've got two FASS units on F650's here at work and I'm not impressed.

So I guess I'd like to stay stock on the LP. Is it good for long term stock use?

You should just go ahead and buy the glacier fuel kit right away... If you upgrade to the newer pump you have to go back to it if you decide to upgrade to the glacier fuel kit... . Wesley

I wouldn't worry too much about the lift pump. I would move it back to the frame rail and put in bigger lines ( vulcan is the easiest ) and a pressure gauge. Some OEM pumps last a long time in this configuration and are easy to change if they do go bad.

I've got plenty of experience in 2nd Gen 24V lift pump relocation. I had a "vulcan" kit before anyone heard of it. But it didn't help. I can't prove moving it does anything real for longevity. Might sound good in theory... but I dont think its enough to overcome the inherent problems of the pump itself.

Plus... I don't know if you can move the pump off the filter cannister like the old 2nd gens engine mounted pumps. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm doing some reading on the Glacier system. Doesn't look bad to me.

Furthermore, the Dodge dealership said the truck has 80K... which is good. However it was traded in because it needed "all new injectors because the previous owner used dyed fuel in the engine". Which obviously seems rediculous to me. I need to get to the bottom of what really happened. I need to speak with the diesel tech and not the sales folks.

Forgot to mention... I was glad to see 80K on the clock for warranty reasons. However... since the previous owner did something to foul the injectors/pump whatever, Dodge voided the warranty so the window sticker says 1000 mile 50%/50% parts/labor on the drivetrain. Thats not good. It sure looks nice however. :)

I have had to put lift pumps on my trucks, and now have switched to the in tank pump. I had a factory wiring problem with it... but have had no fuel pump problems with the in tank kit... nor have I read of anyone with this upgrade who's had a problem... My trucks are all stock...

Just my thoughts.

OEM stock supply pump for 03-04 #3957922 is no longer available from Cummins. I spoke to them first thing this morning. I wanted to buy one as a back up when the present one fails. I also do not want the in tank fix. I guess the good thing is that when I go aftermarket for a new supply pump I can now upgrade my fuel filters. This is a tough call considering that the truck is under warranty and such but do I take a chance with it while I am on the road.
