Scuze me --- I musta mised the wordz about the 2003 aromatik transciption --- is it gonna be made over 4 speed Torque-whatever or maybe something dredged up in the Father-Land? At one time there was a report that DC was lookin' at Allison --- anybody know anything about that?

Damn shame to put a towing machine together with a fuseable link in the drive line... Oh well --- that shouldn't be a supprise Chrysler has a reputation for over ingineerin' one piece and givin' the next one a "lick and a promice".

That's in the article guys - you did read the article right? First half of the year will only have the existing 47re with the standard engine. Mid production year they will introduce the 48re which will be a mechanically beefed up 47re and you will then be able to get the high output engine with an auto.

I'm waiting to order a 3500 SLT+, 4 Door, 48RE and the HO engine in Jan '03. After the truck gets past the 36,000 mile marker, I'll get a Bill K upgrade . By that time he'll probably have a nifty upgrade for the 48RE and James Northum(inarush76) will be seeing me!! :D

Allison has problems

After attending a seminar this past weekend that went over the Allison, be glad that Dodge is not using it yet. There is some design problems that is giving GM fits. Some of the computer strategy is to reduce torque during the shift and if slippage is noted. Gm is also doing a permanent reflash to drop power if a trans is replaced a couple of times under warranty. The current Allison will barely hold the duramax if all is perfect. Add power or over load it and all bets are off. There is a clutch module that has two clutch packs in it and by design has some real clamping issues. If this is redesigned it may be worth having. You can bet that Bill and I will be looking into the "retro" on any better components that come along, or if it is just a marketing thing on the 48RE. Every trans I work on I am constantly asking myself if there is a way to improve it.

James is right

The Allison in the D-Max is not "all that". I know a guy personally who has the Allison behind the new 8. 1L engine. The mighty allison lasted a whole 2,500 miles before taking a complete dump :{ Chevy dealership told him something about they didn't drill out all the oil galleys or something. Don't know how much truth there is to that, you know how ALL dealerships are  I'm sorry to say I don't have any VIN numbers or anything  so ya'll will have to just take my word for it.

It is a shame.....

that Allison is trying to ruin there reputation by putting there trans in a Chubby. Too bad they are owned by GM. :(

The Allison is looking good to us. We developed our Triplelok three clutch converter a few months ago with great results and corrected the fith gear slipage problem shortly after that with valve body modifications. You can install our exchange valve body and throw in our triplelok converter and have a package that works very good. We are still working on shift quality issues to controll clutch opperation under WOT with lpts of HP. We are under construction of a stand alone controller to opperate the Allison trans. The next step is to perform the testing in a 98 Dodge 2500, The only way to find the breaking point of a transmission is to put it behind a Cummins. We will release more info. as we fell nessary.
