Found a used 2500 with a 06/03 build date. Will this truck have a 47 or 48 RE trans?? Also in 2003, were the sticks the only ones to get the 555 TQ H. O. engines?? This truck is clean, has 21,400 miles and may be avaliable at a reasonable price.

I looked under the truck and did not notice a cat, is this true or were my eyes playing tricks on me??

Thanks guys,

Jim

Shrimpy they are already at our ankles. 'Ole DUBYA has us bent over with these fuel prices. That'll learn us not to put another Texas Oil Man in the White House. :{

And your response dezel has what to do with this thread... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ??????????????? Put down the crack pipe and come to grips with W WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back on Topic, this truck has the metal end tanks on the intercooler. I noticed in another thread that the 04's and 05's have the plastic tank ends. This truck is looking better and better.

TWest, any way to tell for sure it has the 48?????

Thanks

Jim

Shrimpy,

Look inside the glovebox at the data tag. If it has the code DG8 on it, that is the 48re. A 47re would have the code DGP. I'm 99% sure you have the 48re, as my truck was built in late March of '03 and it has the 48.

If a 555 HO is what you want, check the VIN on this truck to make sure. If the 8th digit of the VIN is a "C", then it has the 305/555 engine. If the 8th digit is a "6" it has the standard output 250/460 engine. There's nothing wrong with the standard output engine unless you are pulling real heavy loads, and you could always put a performance box on it to boost the HP/TQ.

Check the rear axle ratio on the glovebox tag as well. For maximum fuel mileage you would want the 3. 73, for maximum towing grunt you'd want the 4. 10. Either way make sure it says "anti-spin" if you want the limited slip feature.

It sounds like a nice clean truck. Good luck!

it is actually an '03. 5, mine was built in Apr 03 and is an '03. 5 you can also tell if it has the 48re/HO by looking at the tag on the valve cover( it will be on the bottom row at the back). if that # is 8213 then it is a HO/48RE, otherwise it is a SO/47RE

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like an authentic 305/555, 3/4 ton, lwb, 4x4, 48RE, 3. 55 geared truck. Now if I could just write that check... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... :{

Great info MFalkinham and Scrappy, I appreciate it greatly.

My apologies to you Dezeldog, It was early and I hadn't had any caffeine. I didn't mean to jump on you like that.

Thanks all,

Jim

it has 3. 73's most likely, 3. 55's aren't used in the 3rd gens. sorry you can't swing getting it right now. hopefully you will have better luck in the future.

Really ? ... ... . I think it was warranted, the " $$$$ Princes of Plunder $$$$" are NOT from Texas. ;)

That late build date is most likely a 305 / 555... ... ... with NO Cat.

Go for it Jim

You deserve it

If you want bring it by the shop and we will put it up on the lift and look it over

Thanks for the offer MDW, I may do that if things get serious.

Yeah Gitch, It would be nice, but the boss hasn't given final approval :-laf .

Correct Foxy... ... No Cat!!!!!!!

Not to split hairs, but there are some '03 SO trucks with the 48re (mine is one of them). When DC made the switch in January of '03, all of the HO trucks got the 48re, and they used up the remaining stock of 47re's in the SO trucks. Once they ran out 47re's then SO's got the 48re as well (this happened sometime before April).
