2004.5 Carrier case wearing through?

I removed the rear diff cover to drain, inspect and refill this past weekend. I saw what looks like clutch pack gears wearing through the case. Is this possible?



Would you please take a look at these pictures and tell me what you think?

What did the oil look like when you drained it? See any metallic paste, flakes, chunks, etc? What differential is this, the factory "no slip"?

Just a "normal" amount of metali-goo on the drain plug... fluid was fairly clear. This is the factory AAM 11. 5 limited slip.

Well, I took a look at the FAQ page and saw the thread on differential info. There is this picture that seems to show the same "feature. " I can only suppose it is for fluid flow. Maybe I worried for nothing...

Mine looked exactly the same as yours. I just put everything together and forgot about it.

Mine has those what I called at the time wear spots when I did the 30k service. I took pictures of it and never further investigated. Watching intently for answers.

That is the way they make them... I had the same reaction until finding out that everyone else had the same setup.
