Yesterday, while in the NC Mountains, our 2500 stalled at a stop sign. There was no check engine light and all other gauges looked normal. When cranking, the starter would run like it was under no load--much faster than normal. The engine started, but only briefly. I could barely get any revs going, and it would stall again. This went on for about 5 minutes. Then it started and ran ok enough for me to get to a better parking spot. We sat there for a few minutes and the problem happened again. Again, the starter spun faster than normal, and the engine would start and run only for a few seconds.

Eventually, it stayed started and we drove 5-6 miles to fill up the tank, even though there was 1/4 of a tank left. We drove about 15 miles back to our camper, and had no issues. Today I drove about 3 miles round trip with no issues.

This evening we left to go back home in Winston-Salem, and we only made it about 6.5 miles. The same issue is back. This time, no amount of praying, coaxing, or cussing made the engine start. We got a tow from a friend back to our camper.

There is still no check engine light, and all other indicators seem normal.

Does anyone have suggestions on what these symptoms could indicate as the problem?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Dave

Change the fuel filter and check the fuel pump. It should show a strong stream to fill the fuel filter, but a pressure testis best. Sounds like the pump is failing.

Failing lift pump, don't be confused with flow at an idle and intial start as the pumps will fail intemittently after getting warm and show good cold or at idle.

FCA sticking is another potential. Age and lack of additives will eventually cause problems but usually the will run once it gets moving or you get many codes.

You may not have a CEL but might have codes thta would shed some light. Check using the key trick or a scanner capable of reading codes.

Used the key trick and got the lift pump failure code. Ordered the replacement from Geno's.

Fingers crossed. Thanks for the replies!
