I got 16K on my 04. 5 and now it gets 14-16 city, 19 highway.

Even better with the BullyDog downloader with 24-25 highway.

Wait for the engine to breakin a little more, like fine wine.

I have a 28 5th wheel that I have pulled twice I got 11. 5 going 65-70mph the first time but only had about 4000 miles then, second time coming home from Spokane was doing 70+ with a 10-20mph head wind and got a little better than 8. 5 was the worst I have ever got. When running empty I get between 17 and 20 only have 18000 miles cant wait till get about 40000 then milages gets better... . Oo. Good luck

Welcome. Your dealer is just that, a dealer. You're mileage will get better as the engine breaks in. Your mileage sounds about right. You may want to check out TSB 18-037-04 and see if your truck falls into this category. I know someone has the link. Do a search in the forum. You're bound to get countless results.

Here's a link to TSB 28-037-04 http://www.klenger.net/dodge/3rd-gen-reference/tsb-18-037-04_pg1.pdf.

I also think your numbers are pretty realistic, especially if the truck is new. It would help to know a bit more about the truck:

Std cab or QC

2500 or 3500

SRW or DRW (DRW loss of 1-2 MPG)

2WD or 4WD (4WD loss of 1-2 MPG)

3. 73 or 4. 10 (4. 10 loss of 1-2 MPG when empty)

6 speed or auto (auto loss of 1-2 MPG)

Assuming you have a DRW 3500 4WD 4. 10 with an auto, your milage empty could easily be 4 MPG less than some claiming 21 MPG with a 2500 SRW 2WD 3. 73 and a 6 speed that is broken in.

Its not possible to expect good fuel mileage hauling a 5th wheel trailer at 70 mph. The wind resistence as well as the weight towed and brake stopping efficiency is diminished greatly. Not going over 60 mph will be a big difference. Also here in Ca. the state patrol really inforces the speed limit on RV's. No personal reference intended here.

i had my computer re-flashed and i am now getting around 20-21 on the freeway without pulling anything i will pull my toybox this weekend to pismo dunes i gained about 3 mpg empty so hopfully i will gain 3 towing that will be 13 i hope
