Sierra Problems

TDR Guys,

Looking for help for my neighbor's Ford 2004 6. 0L 4X4, about 46,000 miles.

His truck went from normal effort power steering to one finger spin the wheel and watch it keep turning while the truck is sitting still. Needless to say, this ain't right.

He has tried several sources for what do you think this is and so far no good explanations or diagnostics. I checked a certain online service to info, no real help, no similar symptoms. He also had the pump changed, same symptoms. One guy suggested the steering damper, I personally don't think so, but I have not seen the truck in the last few days. This truck has a hydro-boost and no brake pedal change noted, works just fine.

TDR guys can you pull this one out of the fire for my friend?

Grizzly,

Thanks, I have had it on the diesel stop since wednesday, no answers. Also searched it, didn't find anything.

He did pull me out of a slick spot with his 4X4, I need to pay him back.

He's about ready to buy a Dodge though.

Most likely the spool valve in the top of the gear box the steering shaft goes through. It probably has a bur or rough spot on it and hangs up on the shaft.

And the winner is:

Hoefler!!

Hoefler, got it. The gearbox has a problem. We replaced it, steeringback to normal.

Thanks Hoefler.
