I recently upgraded from a 03 250 hp to a 04 305 hp diesel , this truck has no power I have a trailer that is 8000lbs empty and truck has problems maintaning 60 mph, my 03 with 250 hp could pull trailer with 4 cars @ 70 mph plus no problem, Have truck 2 dealer now they say everythig is ok, Does anyone have any ideas?I am out of commission and have had to cancel several loads becuase of this.

Truck is 2004 Ram 3500 quad cab dually, with RE48 auto trans, 305 HO, diesel, 4x4, truck is stock, just put into service. I use vehicle to pull 4 car auto transport trailer. Had 2003 with standard output, pulled unit fine loaded with 4 cars. This new truck can not pull empty trailer above 60 mph

power

Is it possible to get it to a different dealer, Their is definitely some thing wrong,Does it only have lack of power or does it surge

Roadrrunner ,It sound like the problems your having should be able to fine with a good DRB III tool. Most dealer have them, they are able to fine a circuit with a blown fuse.

dealer went over truck with there testers, said all parimeters are within specs, ful pressure is 5000 psi at idle 22,500 at wide poen throttle , motor has 34 lbs boost at wot, they also did all test that chrysler requested, and determined that everything is o. k. tech also rebooted the computer , made no difference.

power

If the dealer SAID ITS OK my next step would be to dyno it to see what torque & hp you really have ,I still think the truck is has a lack of power.

That sounds like your problem. Make sure your Wastegate is not stuck closed.

If you are overboosting (somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-28PSI on '03's) then your truck will be slower than it should be.

Make sure the wastegate is functioning properly.

Friend of mine has an '04 305HP 6-speed, and it pulls real good. (Pulls much better with the EZ :) )

I AGREE IT SHOULD PEAK AND THAN GO DOWN,AND HANG AROUND 25 TO 30 PSI. @ MAX WHEN PULLING . Have Tech hook up his DRB III tool and go for a test drive with car-hauler.

Has the truck always had trouble pulling your trailer or is this a new condition? I think someone told me the new trucks have different wiring than the old for trailer brakes. Are they working properly, dragging? Gear ratio the same on the old and new? I still think the new truck should run off with the trailer . I came in Wednesday night grossing 21,500 with my '97 2500 and had no problem running 60- 75 mph in hills and never had to crowd it. ( I was to tired to put my foot in it on the hills to see how fast it could climb) a '97 automatic comes from factory at 175? hp. What about screen for lift pump. ? When the stations get a new load of fuel it stirs up all the crap in the bottom of their tank. If your screen is partly plugged It might not show up in no load condition at the dealer.

This past Tuesday was the first time this truck has pulled the trailer, I just put this truck into service. I unplugged the trailer to see if brakes were dragging, not the case ,trailer is also brand new I pulled it a few times with my 03 4 car load 32,000 + gross 70+ mph no problem . This problem makes no sense , it has fuel, it has air , dealer says everything is ok,put truck has no power pulling a load.

This may be dumb but would the dealers tests find a problem where the fuel was not being delivered at the correct rates due to some sort of problem with the fly by wire fuel set up we have?
