2004 won't acceelerate

I am helping a friend from school with his truck problems. If we get the advice I expect from you guys it will mean another member

His truck is a early '04 auto 2wd dually. Truck has 55k miles(maybe should go back to dealer??) Around 1500rpms it flutters and almost refuses to accelerate. AC on or off makes no difference, nor does the difference in tow/haul on or off. He said it happened once before and was able to temporarily fix by changing fuel filter. Any suggestions?

check the oil level, if it is over full, he has a leaking injector. If that is good open up the fule filter drain and try and start the truck, you should have a good amount of fuel coming from the drain tube, if you do no you may have a bad lift pump. Crack open the inlet line on the fule filter canister and do the same check. If you find out you need a new lift pump, Glacier Diesel Power has some really nice setups that totally remove the stock lift pump and have much better reliability.
