2005 and 6 speed and exhaust brakes

Will a exhaust brake on a 05 6spd void the warranty?Which brake would have the control switch on the shifter?The two dealers here do not know anything about these two questions. Which will be the best brake for this truck and why? Thanks for any help. Turbo Terry

The brake from cummins is suppose to be the only on approve for the warranty. But I would double check that.

I'm getting the Jacobs brake on my 2005 (if it ever shows up) because it is included in the warranty, was a good deal from my dealer and was convenient to have it installed when the truck arrives.



It will have the switch mounted on the shifter.



Don't know the pro and cons because this will be my first with a brake. I'm curious to hear the responses also.

My 2004. 5 6 spd was delivered from my dealer new, with the Jacobs ebrake installed by his service shop. The on/off switch is mounted on the shifter. It works perfectly and I like it a lot. There has been lots of debate on the merits of Jacobs v/s the other ebrake manufacturers. A search on 'ebrakes' should locate much of the chat.

Had the dealer install an exhaust brake before I picked up the new rig in Feb. They said " any brake you want", but recommended the jacobs and the Pac. Since the Jacobs had JUST been released for install and was $700 more, I chose the Pac and an very happy with it. Neat install on the compressor, a volumn tank underneath on the frame and the switch is on the shift lever. Easy to use... ... usually just turn it on and leave it on..... except in cruise control..... they fight each other going down a slight grade. Really saves the wheel brakes around town. Happy, Happy, Happy.

Got the Jacobs e-brake on mine. Works great including running on cruise control, its controlled by the engine control module. I just leave it on all the time.

I have the Jacobs, installed by the dealer prior to taking delivery. It is warranted 3/36 and accordingly doesn't afford the opportunity of voiding the warranty because it is there. I don't know what improvements I would make to it. I had a different brand on my 95PS/Auto, and this works considerably better, but there are so many differences between the trucks that a comparison is unfair. The idea of leaving it on when using the cruise (the prior one would disengage) is nice for when you are going up and down small inclines, as it engages on the downhill side, holding you closer to the set speed. . Running empty, it is handy, particularly on off ramps and rolling up to a stoplight, but the "I wouldn't be without one" aspect is when you have a trailer on. When you get to that stop sign at the bottom of the mountain, you have cold truck brakes - PLUS cold trailer brakes - PLUS the braking of the exhaust brake..... Best accessory on the truck...
