I have a good friend headed home which is Blue Ridge, GA. It's an '05 2wd dually with the 6 spd.

When he gets the truck to 2200 RPM it wants to fall on it's face. It's not missing... just no power. Up to 2200 or so it's fine but struggles over that... even on down hill.

He has about 15K behind him... and even on flat ground with downshifting it won't go.

Truck is not smoking and doesn't seem to be missing. All his gauges are normal and no trouble lights are on.

He'll make it home (he's on 575 outside of Canton now) but is concerned obviously.

No mods on truck other than intake and exhaust.

Lacking additional info - how about some form of fuel starvation? Filter or LP? Though, I think it would stumble/miss if starving.

Beyond that, is the turbo spinning? On mine (04. 5) I can hear it wind down for a few seconds after the engine goes silent at shutdown.

Does your friend have any gauges on the rig? Hints on fuel-pressure and boost may be helpful.

Regards,

Mark

He did recenlty top off his tank and it was after about 300 miles when it acted up.

He stopped and shut the truck down for a few minutes and then took off again stating it was normal for a few miles and then gradually began to act up again. I did suggest him changing his fuel filter and then go from there.

Sounds like the fuel filter... when it sits for a while the dirt falls to the bottom & truck stumbles again when dirt is pulled back up. It's easy to change... . tell him to pull in a parts store & it can be done in the lot.

Up to 2200 rpm fine then stumbles? Assuming it is not restricted fuel flow, simple first, does the CP increase pressure with rpm and if so could the rail overflow valve be malfunctioning or pressure sensor? Or would that set a code? My 2 cents as I have read a number of posts on malfunctioning rail pressure relief valve.

It could be fuel or air filter. We had an 05 at work that sucked the filter into the tube it ran just like that, also they run just like that when they are trying to gel up so it could be a fuel restriction. Come to think of it his fuel pump could be going south.
