i've been having this prob for awhile. i was having a problem with the truck not starting after sitting for a while. i got info on leaking injectors and the likes of that. i had the injectors checked, they are good. my truck went into the shop and the mechanic removed the fuel tank and found sludge in the bottom of the tank and he cleaned it out. the truck was starting fine until i ran some diesel kleen thru the tank. it is definatly cleaning it up. each time i replace the filter the truck will start automatically, now matter how long it has been sitting. but now it is maybe two days tops before it wont start again. i have gone thru 4 filters since the tank was cleaned. i did talk to CUMMINS, and they said it sounded like the previous owner ran nothing but bio diesel in her. my question is if anyone on here has ever heard of this? how long will it take to clear it all out? heres is a crazy question... since i am running the diesel kleen thru the tank, (following the instructions on the bottle it says use twice the amount if you need a serious cleaning), at such a high dose, can i remove the filter and let it push all the gunk out thru the tailpipe? i'm not a mechanic, so this is why i ask. i'm saving on fuel economy, but losing in the long run in the price of filters. all help is appreciated.

I'm confused...
The tank was cleaned by your mechanic
It was starting good
then you added diesel kleen and now it's bad

What am I missing?

DO NOT REMOVE THE FUEL FILTER!

You will buy 6 new injectors and maybe a CP3.

Sounds like your plugging your fuel filters, keep a few on hand.

sorry it started to lag when i was trying to start it after the tank cleaning. then i added the diesel kleen for the "just in case" it needed more.

here is another thought, i was reading other forums from a guy with a 03 that was having similar probs. some were saying that it could be the starter battery, or the starter. could this be tested with jumper cables, and another diesel?

I have a battery tester that puts a load on and has a scale to indicate weakness. See if you can lay your hands on one. Each battery needs to be un hooked since you have two and want to isolate the problem. Batteries should be replaced in pairs.
