This truck had a rough life before I bought it, but I spent a lot of time and money to make it a solid truck. About a year ago the motor was replaced with a motor from the local salvage yard. The original motor began smoking blue smoke, and we found the block to be chipped pretty badly in cylinders 5-6. Believed to be due to the previous owner neglecting to clean the air filter, for a long time... The shop that did the work correctly diagnosed the failure of the motor, but lied to me and said that they would install a rebuilt crate motor.
I found out later that the local salvage yard had sold them a motor out of a wrecked truck with less than 100k miles on it. I do not have the exact mileage or history on the motor, but I have had the pistons scoped and they are in excellent condition. The only caveat is that they truck is an 05'. The shop that lied to me about the motor also made the mistake of installing a pre 04.5 motor with my 05+ fuel system, ECM, and turbo. Long story short it smoked constantly, so I had the pistons scoped by a trustworthy shop, and decided to replace the injectors with 03-04.5 injectors after we found out it had the earlier style pistons. The truck now runs incredibly well, as it has an 05' ECM and Turbo (which I believe is slightly larger than the 03-04.5?), with the 03-04' 2 stage fuel injectors. From what I read the 2 stage injectors are more desirable than the 04.5+ 3 stage because the extra injection event is only emissions related.
The truck will be a great one for a long time, but I'm getting out of racing and don't need a full size truck to haul my trailer any more. Want to send it to a good home, as it's now an awesome truck. It was used to tow my race rig across the country, so it had to be as bullet-proof as possible! Feel free to message me with more questions. I've put some good miles on it with the new motor, it runs like a 5.9 Cummins!
I think $22,000 is a fair price,
- Andrew
