N14 Upgrades?

Crew cab conversion, anyone besides Bayer?

Well i stopped at the ford dealer on the way home to see if they had any 05's yet and i found on in the back. It was still in its wrapping and everything. First thing i noticed was the 18" m/t classic II / Alcoa 18" lookin wheels :) they do look pretty nice... That was the only good thing on the truck LOL... First of all... The new coils are TINY and the set-up looks like crap. 2nd. the arms they use and fricking huge and why? they look like crap. . and get this... I did an inspection on the bottom of the truck... Ford must use some real thin paint on the axles. . the paint was peeling off. WTF is with the exhuasts on these trucks? The interior dash looks really plain and makes me really love my dodge interior even more... Dodge still isnt up to par with chevys interior but whatever. The seats were ok. . No headrests in the back. the center console sucks compared to ours. no wheel liners in the rear AT ALL... at least mine came with the front well (towards the cab) and guess what the sticker price was  46,890 WTFFFF!!! i almost fell over. The color was some atlantic blue looking color that was ok. I do like the new grilles the look beefy. Overall i wouldnt even think of trading my 03 in for this peice... I used to be a big fan of these trucks but i believe dodge has ford pinned hands down... even with our POS auto :D .

I just thought of one more nice thing... .

Its got a boost gauge 0 - 40 built into the dash :) its right in the middle of the tach

I think they have a much better looking interior then the Dodge's. Their captains chairs are very comfortable, and yes they have a Real crew cab available right now. They seem to have worked through most of the engine problems, and every Ford owner I have talked to has had 0 (zero) problems and there mileage figures are in the low 20's. They do have nice looking factory wheels, and the new coil spring suspension is very tough, it has 5 bars up front holding it all in place. I have not ridden in the 05 yet, but from all the magazines I have read, it has a very smooth ride. Ford patched up their relationship to International and went forward with the V-6 diesel they will release later for the half ton truck market. Every since then, the problems with their diesels have been drastically reduced, I guess they went to using the engine makers software for the engine management and ditched the Ford version? Horsepower wise they are right their with Dodge, but to me that meas nothing, it is just to easy to increase power. They do have the upper hand on the auto trany's, their 5-speed auto is plain bad and kicks Dodge's butt.

I think the Ford interior is ugly, but I guess asthetics are subjective. Ford does seem to be having a lot less problems lately with there motors, but I still wouldn't rush out and buy one. Agreed on the wheels and the Torkshift.

I had some time today(like I'm real busy or something) so I went to the Ford dealership and looked and drove the new 2005 Ford 250 and 350 DRW. I think most Dodge owners would be very pleased with the ride and power of the new Fords, i know i was. The engines both Power strokes started right up and did not have that funky sound I got from my last test drive of about a year ago. This sounded more normal, and was pleasant to drive. There was plenty of power and the automatics worked very nicely, I would have drove a stick, but this was all they had. Both trucks were on the higher end of the spectrum and they only order them in automatics.

I looked under the front and rear of both trucks and found nothing to laugh at. The front is held in place by what has to be the heaviest built trailing arms I have ever seen, these look like something off a of-road racer. I liked the layout, and how they restyled the front suspension with it's new coil springs. It looks very thought out and heavy duty. The ride is much improved as well, Dodge is not even close to this level of ride comfort. The captains chairs were very supportive and comfortable, I liked them every much. Also the interior is quiet, much more like my interior now that it has been gone over and sound-proofed. I did not hear any rattles or feel any vibrations in the wheel, just drove along smoothly. The truck is quick, it's turbo is very well match to this engine configuration, and seems to always be ready. I think much better then the auto Dodges I have driven. Speaking of which, the Ford 5-speed auto is pure fun, it shifted very solid and quick. I never had any hunting problems, and the down shifting on hills is a great feature to have. I think the new Fords offer a very competitive challenge to the Dodge line-up, and now that the engine problems seem fixed, I think Ford will recover many of the fans that switched to Dodge or Chevy out of frustration. They are expensive thou, one truck was 44K and the other 47K, I know they have discounts but not sure how much and for which models. For fun I looked under these two trucks and about 3-4 other 2004 models siting there at Airport Ford, No leaks or oil spots found, which is very different from the last visit to their dealership. We are going to buy a new car and I had not thought about getting another truck, but this newer version from the Ford camp has me thinking. Not sure if I will give up the chance to purchase a nice car, but this would be the truck I would think twice about if looking for one.

Granted the pictures in the above link are a little weak but I only see two trailing arms with a single rear bolt each. Is that right? Are they really using a two link? How do they account for rotation in the axle? Long radius? No suspension travel? The parts look beefy but I'm not sold.

Too bad the engine still stinks. I read the whole article. I laughed at the gasser comparison with the 6. 8 V10 Ford, the 8. 1 V8 Chevy, and the 5. 7 V8 Hemi Dodge. I personally feel that the Hemi is a 1/2 ton only worthy engine and is a joke to put it up against those big blocks. Looks like Ford is chasing the plug-and-play consumer. Build in brake controller and all. Pretty cool. Too bad its still a PowerStroke. I like how he said that 90% of Ford Super Duty owners pull trailers. This is not to say that 90% of people who own trailers pull it with a Ford! :D

My friend just bought a '05 King Ranch F350... $52k sticker :--)

But anyway, still takes forever to start like any other PSD... And it looks like they used a *slightly* better version of the infamous 2nd Gen trac bar... just with less angle, but I see that sucker failing quickly. The interior is roooomy (4-door), but the center console is a JOKE... it's some kinda pod that looks like it came in a minivan. The woodgrain in it is very nice though.

and OMG, forget about servicing that engine... That thing is packed in there tighter than a Viper powered Neon!

The wheels are nice, it rides very nice, and the seats (king ranch) are very very comfy.

That turbo... oh man, I want one... spools & makes boost on the gauge just revving the engine slightly in neutral, and that's with 200 miles on the odo...

His X-monitor is on the way, we'll see what kinda temps he runs... and how bad I whoop him once the #10 & 3kGSK go in... :-laf

I drove one, didnt like it too well. To me, the interior seems spartan. I prefer the dodge (but I also prefer the 2nd gen interior over the 3rd personally). The motor was quiet, but seemed real peaky to me and I have a 12V. I think the ride was a little better than my 2nd gen was stock, but dodge seems to pick the wrong shocks for the application, IMHO. A good set of shocks will have you ridin better than the Ford. The trans was nice, way better than the 48RE. The truck was a 350 single wheel 4x4 crew. One thing i noticed, ford actually decided to make its truck turn sharper than a 10-lane road. A major disadvantage to the suspension design is the control arm setup. If you lift it, you also have to lower the mounting point location (just like the old ford front ends on non-TTB broncos and F-150's) to keep the axle movement in check. IMO, ford has the market on someone who wants a big truck. The 4-door is a real crew cab, it still sits high like a truck, and it has the truck appeal, along with a well designed auto. the chevy is more of a city-boy truck imo. they ride like cars, sit low and just look a little more less truck-ish, and also have a good auto. the dodge is for someone who wants a real truck, and isnt worried about the back seat room and doesnt mind shifting, as the auto is less than desirable in most cases. again, just my opinions.

If you cant look at one of those and see that once agin IMHO they are completely following Dodges designs. Just look at the new grills, can you say bigger? For what a big truck look? And obviously now the front end that all the blue oval guys said in 94, "Coil over? That sucks what a joke!" Like thier ads say, "Once agin raising the bar for everone else to catch up" Yeah right.

Slightly off topic. I saw a commercial today for Ford that said "Best in class diesel horsepower and torque". That was written on the screen, as I recall, not actually spoken by the announcer guy. How do they get away with this stuff? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ratings for the '05 powerstroke are 325hp and 560 ft-lb (that's what their website says). The website also states "Unsurpassed horsepower". Well, okay that's true. But how is it legal to put on a TV ad that you have best-in-class diesel torque when it's an absolute lie? Unless they mean "best in class diesel torque... at 4000 rpm", which is outside the Cummins operating range?

I think Ford makes a fine truck, but as a company they are lying thieves.

ah-hem...

6. 0 and 7. 3L PSD and 6. 6L Dmax = light duty engines

5. 9L CTD = Medium duty engine

Best in their class... . yup! They don't even compare to our class

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Boy they sure do use that to their marketing advantage! I apologize for calling Ford "lying thieves". Now I just think they're "slimey". ;)

No No. You are mistaken. They make a class leading torque of 570. Which is better than cummins 600 and duramaxs 605. So you see. It is best in class. It is in a class all its own. Lower class.

Just a joke. I hate the best in class stuff. I remember when all three had best in class. I read a bit closer and all three had one reason or another why they were the only diesel in its class. To me. Its classsless.

The 6. 0 and the 7. 3 are in fact med duty engines used in a light duty chassis.

I disagree.

Show me the ID plate that states it's a medium duty application. I can take a pic of my Cummins tag that states very clearly: "Medium-duty"
