Mooretown Pull June 4, 6:00

Lions Super Pull of the South - Chapel Hill - July 22 & 23

#1. We are NOT an MTPA class, so we will pull last at any MTPA event.

#2. We must have a kill switch.

#3. We must have a harmonic balancer sheild.

Comments.

#1. This is a new rule this year, brought on by us getting shuffled into the events schedule last year by local promoters. Looks like we might be able to get a class for 2006, then that rule won't affect us.

#2. I'll find out more, but this is usually a toggle on the rear bumper that must kill the engine when tripped. Air or fuel should do the trick.

#3. Not likely that our relatively low RPM trucks will ever sling the balancer, BUT can you imagine what a projectile that thing would make it it did come off? I'll go look at Barry's. I think his is a couple pieces of angle iron--real simple.

Also, MTPA membership was not discussed. I'll find out more on that too. I don't want any more surprises.

That's it. We won't have any other rules as far as MTPA is concerned. We could "self impose" some, but there'd be no way to enforce them. Sad to say but "Gentlemen's Agreements" don't work in motorsports.

Jack assured me that we CAN pull with those TWO items for the duration of 2005, provided that the local promoters will let us. Local approval should be very easy to get when Jack tells them that MTPA is covering liability.

Jack also made it clear that there is no guarantee that more safety items won't be required for 2006. Safety requirements are driven by the insurance carriers and they re-evaluate each year on a national basis.

I do expect driveline safety to come next. And that makes plenty of sense to me. Look at BBD's new setup under "competition" forum.

NOW here are the MTPA events I'm considering:

25 June Manchester

28 July Shelbyville

30 July Alexandria

05 August Hillsboro

12 August Viola

13 August Mooretown

20 August Lebanon

There are others, check the MTPA site, but those are the ones close enough for me to consider. I'll make special effort to pull at those in bold.

I don't know how your going to get a toggle to work like that Wade.

From what I've seen/read it has to be a 2" ring that they clip onto from the sled. (See below) Where do we get one and how do we wire it?

Its kinda BS, I don't have to have those things to pull up North. and depending on price and ease of installment I might just stick to pulling up North.

that kill switch is the same that i use and most other people use. it is a breakaway switch off of a gooseneck trailer. cost $8-$10. wire in a relay and break the relay wire to your fuel shut down solenoid. problem solved. i haqve never ever heard of a harmonic balancer guard. hmmm. later, nick

Thanks Nick, appreciate that! ;) May be giving you a call in the near future for exact wiring.

Heck, I've got some trailers with switches I can rob.

Yeah, the toggle on Barry's truck is a one-use deal. Trip it and break it.

The balancer thingy Barry uses is a pipe-based ordeal. He's not living at the shop now, so it'll be a day or two before I check that out. We've got tons of bolts in the cover to tie in to. Barry suggested replacing a couple of bolts with studs and using them.

The balancer rule is way less logical than drivetrain stuff, but I'm willing to deal with it.

I'll call TSC in the AM and see what one runs, a relay is about $4 from anywhere.

Now if I can just get a shield made cheaply..... I'd love to pull @ Lebanon... . but I doubt I'll try my luck anywhere else after all this BS. Sucks I can drive 2-3 hrs away sign a sheet of paper and hand over $20 and pull till my hearts content, but 30mins or an hour away I have to spend more $$ to even be able to pull AFTER the event is over. BS. :-{} #@$%!

Hey wade, holler when you see the balancer guard, may be willing to do some fabrication, and maybe even hook up a chain once the transmission issues are resolved. btw turbo is on and operational, thanks.

Manchester pull--this coming Saturday. Near COOP. It was rained out last year, so I've not pulled on that track.

So, if'n you got the safety stuff, Jack should let you pull exhibition at the very least. OR if the locals are going to have "run what you brung" then you might be covered to pull without extra safety gear.

I won't be ready. Cheryl sold her house and I have four days to move it all. :rolleyes: :{
