September Austin Meeting

Something to ponder

The 6th Annual Texas Rally will be held at http://www.guadaluperiverrvresort.com/ on October 1st & 2nd.

We have the 6000sq. ft. pavilion for the weekend. So make your reservations early and mention the LSTDR for the rally rate.

We will be updating this post as more info becomes available as to whom we can get to come for the seminars.

There will be an 11:00 O’clock “quiet” time that will be strictly enforced. You be asked to leave if you are unable to adhere to this campground rule. No exceptions.

We are in need of an offsite facility for a dyno event. I have been in contact with the dyno guy from last year and he is very interested in returning but we need an offsite facility so as to not cause the other campers stress.

Now for the unfortunate side the rally’s that is going to cause the cancellation of future events if we don’t get this under control.

The subject is Back Door Vending: We have in the past had people show up with company trucks & trailers with large logos adorned on them that have been unwilling to support the LSTDR club with a small vendor fee and sell products that capitalizes on the VERY hard work of other that I find reprehensible.

THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ANY MORE. If you show up with a company truck and/or trailer be prepared to pay a vendor fee. If you are unwilling then you will be asked to leave. No exceptions. This is a club and should NOT be exploited.

I want to commend Laredo Performance Diesel (Merrick) of his support last year. He sent in his check for the vendor booth but I returned the check because of the amount of Back Door Vending that went on that I didn’t think it was fair for him to pay when we had more vending going on by people who were not willing to support the club. Please do NOT support these people, as it will be the undoing of this event. How are we going to ask vendors to participate when garage vendors will under sell them?

I regret that we are dealing with this as I have been told this is one of the main reasons Tulare has been cancelled.

This Rally takes an enormous amount of time with only praise as a reward so it is getting harder and harder to put this together each year.

I believe we will have an excellent rally this year now that we all are informed as to what the issues are. I believe this will clear things up and make the event even stronger.

CTDCTD supports the 2005 Texas Rally

The Austin chapter CTDCTD welcomes the coming of the next TDR Texas Rally!

Last year was a blast. This year should be more of the same. An RV is not mandatory for attendance during the day. I rented an RV last year. It's a fairly resonable idea for those without their own RV. Contact me for details. This year I have my own!

We will be hunting for a location to use the dyno outisde of the RV park. Last year's dyno was fun and challenging. We hope to see better numbers this year. If you have information on a business or shop in Kerrville willing to host the dyno event, please, contact us.

A note as the President of CTDCTD:

It is offensive to the membership of the local chapter to participate in Back Door Vending at this event. The minor fee for vendors is necessary to insure the future of the rally and the non-profit organization of LSTDR. If you decide to participate in this activity be warned that multiple persons will ask you to leave immediately. Participants in this type of activity will also be banned from any meetings and future events pertaining to the local Austin chapter. No Exceptions.

Personally I find it ridiculous that someone would choose to defraud a non-profit organization in this manner.

We hope to see you there.

2005 Texas Rally

:D: I plan to be there.

I wholeheartedly agree with the comments concerning back door vendors. As someone who has in the past worked to secure vendors I find the very presence of these people taking advantage of club functions inexcusable. None of club members dollars should be used to support this practice & we should not be shy in letting them know they are not welcome at these events.

Well, I don't have a camper, but my buddy is going to let me use his horse trailer.

Hope that's not a problem.

1. The horse Trailer

2. The Christmas lights

3. What a good time we had

I seem to have acquired a girlfriend in the past months, so all the partying is basically out of my system  , at least when it comes to being a hooligan... If I show up, I promise that myself and all in my party will adhere to the rules

Signed,

-Chris-

Is there a TDR chapter in San Antonio?

I'd like to attend the rally in October... does anyone know if there is a chapter in San Antonio?

After Texas rally

Oo. The weekend after the rally is the annual Rod Run at Boerne. Usually have over 500 rods show up, they close down the main street, have a grand time. I am thinking about camping at Top of The Hill R. V. park at Boerne for the time between & catch the rods as they arrive.

The R. V. park is a Passport America park, if you are a member the rates are very reasonable. Any one want to join us???? :D

I have to say my piece and I will go back to work.

My name is Chace Aldridge, I am part owner in the company that brought a big black trailer to the 2004 rally. After the rally there were some comments made on the 2004 LSTDR rally thread that were directed at me. I am not a regular forum reader but I got a few phone calls about the thread and read what was there. I let the comments go at that point. I have not been reading the threads on this forum at all since that time and have no idea what has been said since then. As far as this thread is concerned I once again received a phone call and read up to see what was going on. The comments so far have been very one sided, and I am going tell my side of the story. Curtis, contacted me a few month before the 2003 rally and invited me to be a vendor. I accepted the offer and set up at the event. It was my first rally and I was very impressed with everything and enjoyed meeting everyone. I felt like I missed out quite a bit because I stayed in a hotel in town and spent all day Saturday, sitting at a table, instead of walking around and talking to everyone and B. S. ’ing like I enjoy doing. When I was contacted about being a vendor for the 2004 rally I believe it was by e-mail, I replied that I would consider it. That was all the communication that was made between the organizers and myself. I decided that I wanted to go to the rally for 2004 and not work, but have a good time like all the other folks that come for the visiting etc. We do not have a travel trailer or any other type of RV so we brought our race trailer that has a living quarters in it. I also asked the campground staff for a spot near the bathrooms because our sink and shower is not hooked up to a tank and I did not want to run grey water out on the ground. When I arrived Mike, (MDW) said that he had tried to contact me again about being a vendor but could not get in touch with me. I replied that I did not want to be a vendor nor had I received any correspondence other than the first e-mail. That was all that was said to me about it the entire weekend. I never once attempted to solicit any business or sell anything to anyone. With these exceptions: I had one of my friends bring down a worn out 93 Dodge that I had sold to a gentleman from Florida, and he picked it up at the rally and paid me. I delivered $20 worth of fuel line fittings to a customer that had ordered them a few months in advance, and I offered to let Curtis try a used TST box that was out of my 2002 truck that I had traded in a few days earlier. I did not bring with me one single piece of merchandise other than the used TST box that belonged to me personally. On Sunday during the dyno, a member of the campground staff approached me and told me that we needed to be out of the campground within the next 20 minutes because there was someone else needing our spot. At that point we quickly loaded up, said adios to a few folks and left. I found out a few days later what was being said on the forum. I read it but made no reply. When this new thread started I felt like something needed to be said because I was the subject of a pretty direct public balling. If I needed to pay a fee of some kind for the logos on my trailer I should have been made aware of it at the rally. Not afterwards on a public forum. I never made a single attempt at being a vendor of any kind at the rally “backdoor” or otherwise. I am sure not running a “garage” business either, we have a full service shop with a dyno and only a small portion of our business is mail order or internet sales. I appreciate all the hard work of the people that put the rally on and the vendors and sponsors that support it as well as the great people that show up and are so willing to be friendly and courteous. I never meant any disrespect to the organizers, and was not aware of the problems I had created by just showing up. I have personally been a TDR member since 1998, and will continue to be part of any event that this membership allows me to be part of. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the 2005 rally and will be staying in Todd’s new 5th wheel (with no stickers on it). I am not trying to start a ******* match or cause any trouble, I just wanted the story to be told the way I see it.
