I noticed a few things on my brothers new 05 vs my 03 Laramine

05

1. quieter

2. engine revs up/down slower

3. Large baffle-like thing mid exhaust (? for vibration or noise reduction)

4. Missing a box in the R front above the bosch injector box, mine has a three bolt pattern and cables going to it. I thought it was he didnt have cruise control or something like that but he does so I have no idea what this is without looking it up but it is not on the 05

5. tow haul mode where OD off switch is on mine (does this change the shift speeds or how is it different now?)

6. Fan different, radiator overflow placed next to firewall now

7. Hood comes with insulation and a light

8. Seems like less overall vibration driving it and engine sounds more car like where mine rumbles more like a diesel

9. Definitely more pick up, I didnt think 60 ftlbs would make that much difference

10. Radio changed in minor ways, emblems a little different, rear seats have head protectors (nice)

He threw two codes I think, does anyone know what they mean.

C code

67 38

A4 01

00 00

Thats how it read off.

Anyway, just initial things I noticed

Yes, codes thrown on truck with less than 50 miles on it.

I think the exhaust is much quieter as well so I think that baffle like think in line must be there to quite the exhaust.

Also, perhaps engine less knocky due to change to multiple injections?

Also noted he has manual lumbar supports, I have electric

That baffle thing is a catalytic converter. Hood insulation should make it seem quieter plus there is a 3rd injection event to quiet it down. Your fuel pump is now in the tank.

2005 48re in tow/haul mode will not lock out overdrive, will make upshifts at a higher engine rpm, will downshift sooner to keep trans temp lower, will make a 4-3 downshift when brake is applied on descending grade. I did a lot of checking on this cause I thought I had a problem when my new 05 would shift to OD with 9,000 lbs behind me. Dodge tells me OD can handle max loads and was done in response to complaints about poor fuel ecocomy when towing in 3rd. Also, they say if it does not work out, a computer flash update could be done. scotty in MN- 2005 2500 QC long box, laramie, deep molten red, 8ft box, 3. 73

2005 Ram Turbo Diesel

Hey guys I just traded my 2000 Cummins for the 05 the Truck is great. I bought the 2500 Quadcab Shotbed with the 48re auto trans, the only concern that I have now is the truck has 500 miles and right off I noticed thre is a distinct vibratiion at 70mph, you can drive out of it @ 65 or 75 but right at 70 it is there has anyone else experianced this kind of trougle any help before I take it back for service.

Thanks, Mark

Is it a 4wd?? Do a search under the 3rd gen. section for vibration and you'll find more than you want to read!!

I wander if a flash can make the 04 48re do the same thing as the 05's I noticed when i test drove a holdover 04 the other day that it said tow haul but when i hit the button it just locked out od?

What! FordBoy drivin a non wrecked dodge? Whatr U thinkin about Travis?

Did I tell You we are selling the ford and allready bought an 05 dodge? FOKISD guys won't like it, but i've still got the pulling truck right?

As far as the thing w/ three bolts on the head, that's what was the throttle, but is replaced by a complete fly by wire setup like ford has used since 94/95.

Missing a box in the R front above the bosch injector box, mine has a three bolt pattern and cables going to it. I thought it was he didnt have cruise control or something like that but he does so I have no idea what this is without looking it up but it is not on the 05
This is the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor on the '03 - the cables you see are from the pedal in the cab, and the cruise control module. The '04s (and possible late-build '03s) have the APPS re-located under the driver's-side battery, and I believe the cruise is handled directly by the ECM. The '05s may be the same, or they make have gone completely cable-less and located the APPS under the dash (no real reason to have a cable running into the engine compartment if it's just going to actuate a potentiometer)

6. Fan different, radiator overflow placed next to firewall now
This is a characteristic of the 600 engine introduced in 04. 5 - the fan shroud is mounted to the engine, allowing a tighter clearance between fan and shroud (this way, they move around together).
