Help replacing transmission dipstick o-ring

Hi

After about 20 miles I start hearing a sort of whizzing vibration noise. My 4x4 has around 250,000 miles with 15,000 on the new luk clutch. Anyone have any ideas? Once it starts it will do it while moving even in neutral with clutch engaged or not.

My truck used to make a similar sounding noise a few years back. In what condition is your front Driveshaft/CV joint? Mine was toast around 170k miles so that may be the source of your issue... Just a thought.

Well I was driving home and the noise was bugging me so I grabbed the transfer lever and pushed it to the right and the noise stopped. I think it’s probably the linkage.

It kind of makes sense now. A few months ago the linkage came apart and I didn’t feel like driving to town for those lousy rubber bushings so I made some out of steel on the lathe. I drilled holes in the rod ends a put washers and split pins in them to keep the bushings in place. I reckon this must be why the factory used rubber.

When the rain clears off I’ll pull the linkage off and drive it to see if the noise stops. If so I guess I’ll get the crappy rubber bushings and slap them in there.
