I have installed 35" pro-comp tires (20" KMC rims) using a 2" leveling kit on the front.

Purchased the Superlift re-calibration kit to later learn it will not work on the 2006 Ram

Does anyone know if the factory computer can be re-programmed so it knows the new tire diameter

Dodge Dealer has no clue

Side note: I had to re-arc the front guards by cutting the sheetmetal - about a 10 minute job and results in a really clean finish - have pics if anyone is interested in doing this

What is a smarty and where can I get one?

There are devices I have looked at but they really only trick the speedo.

The ultimate solution is to re-program the PCM (computer) then all the other signals are correct, for example the shift points for the transmission.

The service manual discusses this and talks about 'certain' indicators in the instrument panel can be activated or deactivated, but gives no information as to which, nor does it discuss if the PCM contains wheel diameter spec.

My thinking says that it must as this vehicle comes with various tire options so the factory must have some way to tell the PCM the tire diameter.

I know the tire diameter is relevant because the speedo now reads 5 mph slow at 70mph

To better help you, you should fill out your sig.

Anyay, Smarty is a performance programer that can clear codes and recal your speedometer as well. You can also go to the dealer to get it done but I've heard from the grape vine that they will charge you and they can only go to certain size. Mine is a 37" tires and my speedo is right on according to my Garmin GPS when I set the tire to 35. 65" (not exactly a 37"). It took me a a few tries to dial the correct speed acording to my GPS but I got it done.

Go buy a Smarty from Bob!

I don't know what part of the country you're in, but I think anyone in your area with a Smarty (TDR members?) can use their's to adjust your speedo.

Check it out.

I thought the ABS/Tire Size reprogram with Smarty was only good while the Smarty was VIN attached to an individual truck.

Like my Smarty. As mentioned earlier many offroad tires are not the advertised height.

I thought ABS update is not VIN locked. Maybe Bob Wagner or someone with first hand knowlege will chime in.

Yep I found out that with my 37" tires, I have to update my ABS to a 35. 65" on the Smarty to get the speedo right on.

My abs setting has never reverted back to stock after setting truck ecm back to stock and unlocking smarty. I have read on her some where that it is supposed to but mine never has. Ive loaded and unloaded my smarty several times and the speedo always stays set.

WMoroni, Good point,I also put my ECU back to stock unloaded Smarty and speedo stayed corrected for new tire size. (No more Smarty till I get a new clutch. )

Thank you for all the help - seems like the Smarty is the way to go, so will give it a shot.

Have read everything available on the smarty - am I correct in assuming one connects the Smarty, sets the Tune / tire size then disconnects it?

If that assumption is correct then its also a good time to add an egt guage?

I have not tried an 06 yet but I do know my scanner will recalibrate an 05.

Weird. Whenever I loaded the stock program back to my '03 the speedo would go back to stock. I figured it out on the way back from a dyno day when I drove past a road-side speed display that showed I was going 3-4mph faster than I thought...

I am talking about changing the tire size in the ABS module via a scan tool, not a programmer. I never tried an 06 or newer. My son just bought an 06 so when he comes home for a visit I will try his.
