excessive noise from shifter area?

Two things bug me about my 2006:

1) 2 second throttle lag from a stop. It accelerates the same (mild throttle acts the same as throttle on the floor) and ignores hard throttle input for 2 seconds from a stop. This is SCARY and DANGEROUS if you're trying to accelerate into tight traffic. I suspect this is caused by the goofy "torque management" programming?

2) When I shift the APPS has about a quarter to half second delay on stopping the throttle input. This causes a slight rev in the engine -- that the tach ignores. Has the tach been programmed to "display customer expectations" now too; like the oil pressure? lol.

The truck is a joy to drive and has very good power for a stock vehicle; just theses annoyances.

Do the aftermarket boxes help delete these issues?

Yep, TM and slow reacting electronics. The ECU does not allow full fuel until boost hits about 12 psi so you get a lag when you step on it. You need a box that will plug into the MAP sensor and fool the ECU into thinking boost is up.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do about other issue. The APPS reacts immediately to input but there is already pressure in the rail that has to go somewhere. The ECU shuts down fueling but it still has to bleed that pressure off and it takes a bit to do it. Trying to shift with out giving the system time to adjust causes problems. Simply slow down the process a bit and and it will work better.

Mine does the same thing. It feels like a combination of TM kicking in and turbo lag.

When you only have 3200rpm to use and the boost hits it uses the revs up real quick.

When I want to get moving quick I short shift to 3rd and EASE the pedal down and get it into 4th as fast as I can. Quick-but-smooth pedal movements seem to help a lot

in removing the violence of the turbo kicking in.

Still getting used to this diesel thing. 2k miles in 32 days and still trying to get rid of my gasser habits!! The gearhead in me likes having something new to learn about.
