My personal RAM vs my 2020 work F450

Looking at a RV with a 2006 Cat C7 300hp 45000 miles on it. Looking for comments from people who have experience with the motor.

Unless you like repairing oil leaks, run. We just got rid of just over 100 C7 powered school buses due to excessive repair costs. Everything from the valve cover to the oil pan, front gear cover to rear main, if it’s got oil touching it, it’s going to leak. You might as well grab a HEUI pump and a water pump while you’re at the CAT dealer. Also a set of injectors, cups and seal kits. Oh, and the special tools for them, too.

Scott Thank you that is the information I was looking for. Someone with actual hands on experience.

We actually passed on the rv earlier because it was not exactly what we were looking for.

There was a fellow on CompD that asked a similar question about a C7 powered four door Freightliner that had been an ambulance. The ambulance body had been removed and he wanted to use it to pull his toy hauler. I and several others advised against it. He fought with it for almost a year repairing numerous oil leaks, replaced the water pump, and repaired the air compressor. He finally sold it at a loss.
