2006 ECM Exhaust Brake logic

I have been looking through the FSM, forums and general internet search's and I have not found a clear answer to what the logic behind the exhaust brake (EB) control is for the 2006 5.9 Cummins ECM.

I have found (and from my experience) that it will run the EB to aid warm up (under 900 rpm, 170 degrees) and it will apply the EB to slow the vehicle when above 25 mph.

What I am trying to figure out: is does it only look at Accelerator Pedal position or does it also look at Brake Pedal input?

I was not aware that any of the 5.9’s had any Exhaust Brake control or programming in the ECM.

The ECM has 2 pins. Connector B Pin 39 for Exhaust Brake "request" (you run it to a switch and then ground). Pin 42 for solenoid control activation (ground control). The actual commanding of the EB is all controlled by the Cummins ECM.

I have PACBrake Air solenoid controlled EB for reference.

All have it, only the 05 isn't capable running a Jake brake with the factory ECM.

The program activate as soon as you plug in the 2 pins into the Connector at the ECM.

Torque converter lockup (auto), throttle position, and ECT for warmup mode. It will do warm up mode with manual fast idle up thru 1100 rpms but not any higher.

I’ve never seen anything where using the brake makes a difference. The 13+ trucks do look at brake pedal input with the EB in auto mode thou.

2nd Gen ECM control with a manual transmission started in 99, I think. All of the CR’s had it for the manual transmission, even the auto but the auto wasn’t fully integrated until MY06.

My 05 ran it just fine.

Unless you’re referencing an auto. I’ve heard the 05 auto ECM can control the EB, but it doesn’t have the ability to lock the tq converter.
