Hi, does anyone know what the tare weight of a 2006 dodge ram 3500 quad cab 4x4 long box diesel 6speed. i am looking to put a hoist in my garage and am trying to determine what capacity will safely lift my truck.

thanks

Were you thinking about the drive-up ramp type, or the kind you swing arms under? I chose the "drive-up ramp" type due to liability and not wanting our nose heavy trucks falling off! I then ordered the sliding ramp that slides front to back that can lift up on the vehicle's frame or axles. I think this is the best setup, since I have all the flexibility I need. More $$$to be sure, but do it once and do it right, if you can. I have no regrets.
Come to think of it, the kind I have is called 4 post, the arm type is called 2 post.

Get a 4 post with the optional jacks to lift the wheels off of the ramps if need be.

Rule of thumb is the capacity of the lift should be 50% GREATER than whatever you plan to lift. 10k truck=15k lift.

You never want to run a lift to "max"! Gets pretty dicey.

Mine looks similar to the one pictured, except it's a 15,000# model, and the ram looks beefier on mine. IIRC, total cost was $5800 installed, with the sliding jack. We've actually gone through about 5 switches on this one, and they aren't cheap. They stick in the "on" position. The installer "gave up" so we farmed out our own switch and haven't had any problems since.

I didn't know that and regret that I posted 8k to 10k.

I'll remember it.

Nothing to regret. I used to be in the auto business and there is nothing worse than putting a vehicle up on a lift that's maxed out knowing that you have to work under it.

Pucker factor sets in pretty quick. :)
