Don’t chase 5-cents/gallon pricing. False economy.

Agreed that it is false economy. But I would add that there is another aspect that needs to be considered: Loyalty. If you get a bad load of diesel while saving a nickel a gallon, chances are you won't get any love when you complain to the company who owns the fuel station. If you buy your fuel from the same place, or same two places--i.e. in town station and on the road fuel station, and save all your receipts they are far more likely to cover your damage costs. No mom and pop business is going to pay to fix your truck if you complain their dirty, water-soaked fuel messed up your engine. You can try suing them, but you probably won't win unless several other people had the same experience and are also suing them. But spend several thousands on fuel at the same place over several years time and your loyalty will probably be rewarded.

And for what it's worth, I've averaged about 17 MPG over the 15 year, 334K mile life of my truck. That includes both city and highway driving, and towing/haul with the bed full, often at max weight.

I have an 06 6 spd. It has 4in suspension lift 37x13.5 100lb toyo m/t and heavy rims. Truck weighs 8400# with me driving. I get 16 mpg hand calc on hilly hiway with some 2000 ft passes on a 300 mile run. I run at 1900-2100 65-70. 4:10 rear end. I consider that good mileage for my kind of truck. thanks to the 5.9l. I get 12mpg pulling my 7000# camp trailer up into the mountains. I have pac brake so dont use brakes much.
