I have a stock 06. No electronics, just exhaust and intake. The truck runs good. It just seems to smoke a little more. This is my first Cummins. I now have 56,000 miles on it and bought it new. I can start it up after it sitting all night and I get a small puff and thats it. I them back out and go to pull out of my drive way and you can see a little black smoke till the turbo comes up. It seems like this is normal, but I just don't remember it doing this when new. I also notice it will blow a puff of smoke it I put my foot in it hard to get around someone. I don't drive it hard at all, I also wait to get up to temp before I drive hard. This might just be in my head, the MPG'S are good.

When new, the CAT will filter out some smoke that you might otherwise see. With your exhaust, you will see a little more. Also, you may need to clean/replace your air filter.

I thought about the air filter too. I cleaned it, but it was fairly clean anyways. I am sure it's nothing. Just thought I would ask the question! I plan to keep this truck a long time, if it needed something I was going to do it. Would some fuel additive help?

mine does it too... . It didn't do it before I changed the exhaust. When i installed the new exhaust, I didn't reinstall the cat. Typically, the cat would catch the particulates then burn them off when I got up to operating temp going down the road (so I didn't see if unless I went to WOT) There isn't a cat to catch them now, so I see a small amount of smoke at first startup.
