i have a 2006 2500 quad cab with just the 4 speaker stereo. i want to replace the speakers in the doors, but im not sure what size they are. if anyone knows let me know. Thanks

Doors are 6x9, but I put 6. 5" round component speakers in there with an adapter plate. They sound better than the oblong speakers. The rear doors are stock 5. 5" round speakers. The dash will take 3. 5" speakers, but you will need to run speaker wire to them.

i am not so sure about the 6. 5 sounding better than the 6X9 its more a matter of preference i had a set of focal 6. 5 components and switched to fosgate 6X9 and i really enjoy the mid bass produced by the 6X9. I guess it would just depend on what you like and how you listen.

If you have a sub, the round ones sound better. If not, then the oval ones sound better. A lot depends on the quality of the speaker purchased.

It's not just the quality of the speakers (I like the 6. 5" round replacements too), but also the sound insulation which can be added to the doors. Good custom installers install special insulation pads which get rid of many of the resonances that occur in the door spaces. Sorry, I don't have link to the sources, but look around. A few bucks spent in acoustics can be a far better value than the most expensive speakers.

If you do go after good (i. e. expensive) speakers, consider MB QUART.

thanks for the input. i wasnt sure on size because when you go to these websites, they give different dimensions. so i was a bit confused

well i am still sticking with it all depends on what you like i have 2 jl 10w0 with the fosgates and i enjoy the sound... just my . 02

the door panels are super easy to take off. just take out all the phillips head screws on the panel, take the door handle off (bolt on the backside of the handle towards rear of door), then slide the door panel up, and un plug the connections for window and door locks and your done. rear is the same. what speakers are you guys running in the rear? ive been trying to find 5 1/4 speakers but everyone says they wont fit. i know the mounting holes are pretty weird. so just wondering what your running

do you have to drill any holes?

I didn't have to drill any holes in my entire truck for the stereo speaker installations. 3. 5" in dash corners, 6. 5" components in front doors on bracket adapter and 5. 5" coaxials in the back doors.
