Competition Dyno Question

Competition .......and they said it couldnt be done

Thanks to everyone that came and watched, or played with us all. I really hope you had fun. We had an excellent turnout, Saturday and Sunday, and although the temerature was a bit hot, everyone seemed to hold up well.

We managed 7 runs on the dragster (5 Saturday and 2 Sunday), and won the Saturday Top Diesel event, but Greg Hogue did get the low qualifyer bonus on Saturday, with a 9. 10 to our 9. 17 (if I remember the times right).

We made the best pass for us ever at Denver, with an 8. 800 at 164, Sunday in front of the crowd, and then first round, they paired us and Greg agains gassers to have a gas vs. diesel shootout, and Dustin treed our competitor, but we lost by less than a car length. That pass was a 9. 11. Greg made 3 runs on Sunday, with a best of 8. 85.

Thanks to Greg and the Dr. Performance team for coming and playing. You guys are getting too close to us, we have to step it up. We could not hit our 60 ft times, and will get that back, and hopefully come to Hourston later in the year and do this again.

Sounds like some fun times out there. Congrats on the passes with the new set-up Scott.

Any report on the rest of the trucks. Any fast street truck action? I heard some pretty nice dyno numbers too. ;)

TONS of trucks. I was so busy with the car, I missed a bunch, hope that someone else can give updates. Richard's dyno was there both days, and he had some great numbers.

This one is me in the first gen on my way to a 16. 6 at 84mph or so. It was quite humbling to have that S10 pull a . 015 reaction time (mine was a . 175), and run an 11. 13 and some ungodly mph in the 160's or so (time slip is at work, sorry!).

My second run was a 16. 4, so happy with that, and 4/10ths better than last year due to some fuel pin/diaphram grinding on the VE pump, shaving that washer a bit.

This is a wicked fast first gen. 13. 4 on one run, 13. 6 I think on another. Good job.

Kurt I think this is you - meant to round you up and say hi, we spoke about a crew cab on the phone a while ago now. But you gave me a pile of good advice I used to knock 4/10ths off my time. I have several more photos in succession if you want them.

The lucas truck, doing unreal burnouts! I have a succession of these pictures too if someone would like more of them.

Not sure what powered this one/who this is. It took a while to spool up, and once it got going it was unreal. His first run something gave out, but on the second run I swear we saw the front tires spinning up to the 1/8 mile, and it still ran some wild time (10ish? I forget, sorry!).

You guys had too much fun! We were coming out there but ran into a few problems with our truck. We are going to make a few events this summer yet. See you in Edmonton!

I'm not positive, but I think that might have a Scheid engine in it. I think that is the same truck that blew a chunk of his block off in IRP last year. Going off my memory, so I could be way off. lol

You are right Dan! I was told that they had to take timing out of it to even start in Denver. I saw a vid of that truck running in Muncie this year and his spool time was really long, all I could think of was the poor transmission fluid.

Jim

The truck is Jimmy Smith's.

The guy runs a 10, no spray, at mile high and you're concerned with the spool time and transmission fluid temp?  Ya missed the important part. ;)

Congrats to all the participants! Sounds like a good time was had by all.

They announced over the PA system on Sunday that Jimmy and the the boys from ATS had to put that truck on the juice to get it going at a mile high. I think It blew off a boost hose on the first run about mid track but when they got it spooled on the second run it just flew :D :D

Good to know more of the story on that picture, especially that first run and why he shut down and the huge amount of smoke that came out - tons of unburnt fuel since it had no boost.

The spooling was awesome. Totally added to the anticipation of the run. I don't know how he got it staged after spooling it like that, but he did, and it sure ripped down the track.

Yep, that's Kurt. The amazing part is that it is a 5-speed manual truck

Nice pics Nordby.

Got Traction? Denver did. Here is a photo of the dragster at 60 ft. with a high speed camera. Checkout the wrap on the tire. Check out the Cummins hats on the crew!

Here are the 4 cars getting ready for first round action, us first agains gas powered 8 second El Camino tube car, and Greg behind us going up agains a 8 second S10 PS Truck. It was gas vs. diesel for the crowd.

Nordby: thanks for the picture postings. I had a couple of 13. 3s, 13. 4s, 13. 5s and slower for the weekend. All of those were 102 mph and one hit 103. My best was the second to last run.

The Lucas truck would haul after the nitrous(?) kicked in. I think I saw a few passes around 115 mph.

I would like to see the dyno numbers, but they are corrected numbers. If like other Dynojets around here probably 23%.

Kurt

On Edit; Thanks to Peter at South Bend for my 4 - puck 3600# single disk that held flawlessly for 20 runs.
