Almost ready to order my truck from Adam. . Thanks for all the great info. I am getting addicted to this stuff.

For the small price difference between the 2500 & 3500 4x4 SRW M/C I am considering the 3500 which has an additional 1K pounds payload capacity.

Has anyone compared the ride quality and noticed any difference. I will have min. of 1500 lbs in the bed at all times. My local dealerships do not have any 3500 MC to compare. #@$%!

Welcome to the TDR!! The only physical difference is the one extra leaf spring on the 3500. With 1500lbs in the bed of my truck it rides more like a car. The ratings are more for legal reasons than the real world ratings of what the truck can handle. Other than that, they ride pretty much the same 2500 vs. 3500 that I've noticed.

here's my 2 cents.

my2500 '01 only settles an inch or so when I have the gooseneck on it, and it stays about an inch shy of resting on the overload springs.

My 3500 SRW '07 settles quite a bit more, and in fact it sits on the overloads, with the very same load.

I'm not certain if the amount of travel until they sit on the overloads are the very same or not.

The 3500 SRW '07 rides much nicer ( softer) than the '01 2500, but I'd rather the '01 in a turn while hitting a bump as it has less sway to it.

I had a 97 2500 and now have an 06 3500 MC. For the price difference, I'd go with the 3500. I'd rather have and not need it etc. Because of the big cab on the MC, the carrying capacities are reduced in relation to the QC. When it's not loaded, my guess is it rides very much the same as a 2500. Only after it hits the overloads will the spring rate change.

I just took delivery of my first Dodge, after 20+ years of being told by Dad that Dodge was best. I drove several 2500's and 3500's and settled with the 3500 for the long haul. The 3500's ride is a little stiffer but worth the extra carrying capacity. Be sure to get the Jake Brake!

If you are going to use your truck to go to the corner strore , wash and polish it the rest of the time then don't get a dually, unless you like how they look. But if you are going to pack 4000pds + sliding camper 8' 4'' wide and tow boat or trailer behind , or any heavy high loads than there is no comparison. Get a real truck! Never had to tow a large fifth-wheel, but I will leave that one to the experts. ITA for new truck 10/05/07 Gary

I think the 3500 has an 11 inch rear end and the 2500 has a 10 inch rear end. If I am correct, that may be an important point to factor into your decision.

I drove the 2500 SRW and 3500 SRW and DRW trucks before making my choice to go with the 3500 DRW I thought the DRW had the best ride to it

I dont tow much more than 8-10k but the better ride was worth it to me.

the SRW trucks were more bouncy to me. I drove the Chevy trucks as well and found the same results. From what I know the 1500 MC and 2500 trucks have the 10. 5" AA axle and the 3500 has the 11. 5" AA axle. I think both have the same front axle. it's 9-9. 5" it's a ball joint front solid axle and the U joints on my 3500 6. 7 DRW are not that big.

All CTD's since '04. 5 have the 11. 50" AAM rear axle. The 10. 50" AAM rear axle was used in some 2003's and some early 2004 CTD's with the 47RE automatic.
