I just took delivery of new 2007 5. 9, six speed manual Mega Cab on Thursday of last week. The truck seems like it is going to be a good runner, it definitely makes more power than my 2004. 5 did when new. I am concerned about one issue though. Yesterday morning while driving through town the idle got really rough. The truck ran fine when given throttle but the idle was rough. The truck wasn't fully up to temp and the problem went away after five minutes or so but I'm still concerned. It felt like it was running on five cylinders. The truck only has 500 miles on it, I hope I don't have to take it in for warranty work already. Anybody else have this experience?

Thanks

Well if a injector already went south on you at least the dealer won't be able to claim "Too long idle times" since you only have 500 miles on her. I would take it in as soon as possible. Hope your dealer has a good diesel tech-Good luck.

I posted last week about my 06 5. 9 with 12,000 on it had a rough idle. Mine however is different than you describe. Mine happens when the truck is up to running temp and usually in real hot weather after pulling. Mine isin't what I would call a BAD rough idle per se. Passengers would never know the difference, etc. I put a double dose of injector cleaner, changed fuel filter couple of times and so far I think has really improved. Could be a FCA ( Fuel control actuator) as well. My oil level is staying perfect so I am not going to think Injector quite yet... . Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies guys. I need to take the truck in to have the speedo calibrated for my 19. 5 wheels but I need to get that all figured out since they are no longer set by revs per mile. I guess I'll have them look into the idle at the same time. I know what I'm going to hear though, "unable to substantiate" intermittent problems are a pain.

You will probably hear from the Service Manager that it is "performing as designed" and get blown off just like I have. One Service Manager told me as the driver's door was visibly shaking that every one of those trucks does that. Another Service Manager at another dealer (STAR told me to go elsewhere if I wasn't happy) told me first that they could not duplicate the problem even though it happens whenever the truck is running. He then told me the aforementioned "performing as designed". That dealership told me three different reasons why it idles rough, gets poor mileage & puts out a lot (for box stock & unloaded) of black smoke. They still won't even touch it to find out why. And apparently the 10 lb/ft more torque that this one has over my 2004. 5 is supposed to account for it all too since they put on the paperwork that I recently upgraded trucks & I should expect lower mileage because this engine is soooooo much more powerful than my last truck. They even had the gall to try to tell me it smokes more because it is set up that way to meet 2007 emissions. I told the tech that was wrong because of the August 2006 build date of the truck & engine (sticker on the valve cover says that it is supposed to comply to 2006 emissions regs, guess that must be wrong). He also tried to tell me that my truck is way underrated & is more like 500 hp instead of the advertised 325. I need a new dealer with a competent diesel tech and a Service Manager that is not only concerned with where I bought the truck.

Started the truck up this morning and the check engine light stayed on so i have it in the shop today. I don't think the light is related to the rough idle though since it ran fine the whole way to the shop. I'm having the speedo set for my 19. 5 tires while it's in. The dealer is screwing me $125 to set the pinion factor, that really pisses me off.

So here is what I got from the dealer. Code PO191 set. Performed tests, found for fuel rail pressure sensor circuit. TSB #18-032-06 applies to update PCM. Flashed PCM.

Customer states rough idle, check and advise.

Unable to verify after PCM update.

Possible related to line #1.

Hopefully this fixed the rough idle problem.
